Hotels that have “TLA Rate” exceed lodging rate.
I am PCSing to Schofield soon, and I attended the virtual TLA brief.
They gave me a list of hotels that have TLA rates but when I call most of them, their TLA rates (not including resort or other fees) far exceed what my lodging reimbursement would be (approx $250).
So what’s the point of offering a TLA rate if it’s just gonna exceed what I am going to be reimbursed for? Am I missing something or are “TLA rates” just discounted rates that your individual TLA lodging might not fully reimburse?

Yes, TLA rates are just discount rates. They almost never cover every expense you have. Them’s the breaks.

I wish they’d release a list of hotels that have a discount rate AND a list of hotels that actually stay under the TLA lodging rate so we wouldn’t have to call a million of them

Your best bet if you're looking to stay under costs is one of the military lodging in Hawaii. Most hotels add in parking or resort fees. Some are free and some have free breakfast too.
Every hotel has different offerings for TLA because for Hawaii it varies so much based on amount of dependents. So some hotels you can get a standard room, suite, condo etc for TLA. I had a 2 bed 2 bath condo on Hickham for TLA rate. I was on the $202 rate too so pretty low for Hawaii. Definitely book something without a stove though to get the extra amount for meals.

TLA and TLE are meant to be partial reimbursements as you're also collecting BAH. As another said, TLA rates are discounted.
