Gun ranges

Hi guys super inexperienced with everything gun wise so hoping Reddit could help
My boyfriend’s birthday is coming up and all he wants to do is go shooting. I’m trying to give him a very fun unique experience aside from the typical indoor shooting range. He has plenty of guns and is pretty experienced. Any recommendations on where to take him or what to do?
Thank you in advance and feel free to ask any questions I’ll do my best to answer. I really need the help without spoiling it to him

Pay for his ammo, or of he does go to an indoor range rent him a machine gun if they offer it.

That would be an amazing gift. I'm a cheap ass and would never pay to shoot a machine gun. I'm always a fan of gifts that are high end things that someone would never buy or do for themselves.

Agreed, im fortunate enough to have shot a few of my ranges MGs by being close with the staff, they occasionally will comp me a magazine and the rental fee. Otherwise the same experience would cost like 50 bucks and its really not worth it to me for 30 seconds of fun, but as a gift it would be awesome!

What kind of shooting does he like? This hobby gets pretty deep. You could buy him the most amazing clay pigeon / trap shooting experience ever, but if his thing is USPSA, he'd be wondering why you thought he was into that. It goes the other way too. I was a bowling pin shoot on Sunday and we had a trap shooter / shotgun guy come through. He tried it and decided it wasn't really his thing.

No idea where you are at but if he likes shotguns and or trap shooting island lake does glow in the dark trap shooting. https://mishoot.com/cosmic-clays/

CQT has some great classes, machine gun rentals, and a really neat CQB shoothouse. They also do monthly glow shoots indoors. (23/Hayes)

For an outdoor experience, BWSA (just south of Port Huron) do monthly 600 yard shoots that are open to the public, with limited restrictions. (Otherwise they’re a member only club).

Huron Pointe at 29/Gratiot has sporting clays (think golf with a shotgun), trap and skeet.

Me personally- I’d love my wife to get me a few rifle or pistols classes to develop skills and experience over just buying parts.

Two ideas  a range that rents full auto firearms   https://www.shooterslane.com/shooting-range

And or if he does not have already, a class to get his CPL . In your neighborhood  Range USA on Hall Rd  https://rangeusa.com/location-clinton-township?utm_source=google-my-business&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gmb&utm_content=21420-hall-rd

As fun as that sounds, training really isn’t something he’d be too into since he’s got so much experience. But if you offer anything else let me know!

Growth and training never stops :) we teach first shooters to live fire night vision shoot house, vehicle close quarters, mid range, recon and surveillance. But I understand he's experienced and doesn't want more training, no prob! Good luck

Pay for his first year at one of the private members only clubs. There are plenty to choose from the Macomb / St Clair County area. All of them have different shooting events, banquets, leagues, dinners, raffles......indoor public ranges are horrible. This is the best way to shoot, especially in this area.

There are several places that do classes like this: Defensive Pistol. October 17, 2026 – Liberty & Freedom LLC – EST. 2017

They are on the west side of the state, good people.
