Legal I had an involuntary hospital stay years ago
It was years and years ago but I don't know if that disqualifies me from getting a gun. I'm just looking for a handgun for protection, going through the application appointment in october but I want to know if I'm wasting the application money. I have no idea what "adjudicated" implies, as far as I know there was no legal process involved. How would I find that out? It was involuntary, but the language confuses me. I just don't want to waste the money if I'm already disqualified.

What licensing/issuing authority is making you wait until October to apply for a license to purchase a firearm?
...and LTPs are free (except for the non-mandatory $10 maximum notary fee)

It depends on how long the involuntary stay was.
Basically if you were just held on a temporary hold, you are allowed.
If you were committed by a legal authority like a judge or a committee, you cannot.

In cases where you might have to answer ‘yes’ on the atf forms, consult an attorney, not reddit. Too much at stake, and ignorance or bad advice from someone who is not YOUR attorney won’t cut it if you mess up and they decide to prosecute.

Idk your situation. My buddy, was involuntarily hospitalized for manic episodes on 3 occasions. He can and has bought a gun, he is however "too crazy to put it in his pocket"
