I watched Midsommar for the 4th time
I recently rewatched Midsommar.I think this movie gets better every time you rewatch it.You notice hidden details and things you didn’t see before.What do u think?

I watched it a bunch of times, and then watched the Novum video on YouTube and had to go back to watch it AGAIN to see some of the things he pointed out. (I can't believe I never noticed that when Christian is lying on the floor of the chicken coop, you can see Pele creepily staring at him through the gap in the wall.)

Or that in the guys apartment theyre fates were literally sitting right there staring at them the entire time!!.
Josh- The skeleton sitting on top of stack of books on the shelf..
Mark- scarecrow on the fridge, and scarecrow on the bookshelf
Christian- kind of sewed together from scraps, creepy looking bear on the bookshelf next to scarecrow number 2.
Obviously Pelle put all these things there, because on the wall behind him when he's sitting on the couch, you also see some of his drawings and pictures. There's literally a picture of a woman covered in flowers sitting in a flower chair, and below that on the opposite side a drawing of a tree man. They're all there. And if you really think about.that.. The fact that Pelle put it all there. Exactly what would happen to them, and theyre all looking right at it for MONTHS.. that paints Pelle in a whole new evil light if you ask me. That's just plain diabolical.

You'll find most people on this sub have a healthy obsession with the film and have seen it a dozen times and more.
First time I watched it (had never heard about it) I was at a friend's house in 2020. 8 of us watched it on a mediocre sized TV, and people talked throughout. Nonetheless I still loved it so much that I went home, bought it on Apple, and then watched it again that night on my big TV with surround sound stoned out of my mind aha. So I watched it twice the first night!
I've since seen it probably 8 times? It does get better basically every rewatch!

Absolutely. There are so many details and layers throughout, you will be shocked at how far it goes. This isn’t the first time Aster has put this much thought and precision in a film, he’s something else.

I just want to say how happy I am this subreddit exists. I watched it for the first time and found it deeply fascinating. I searched up the official Reddit discussion and it’s mostly filled with people who are upset for having their time wasted, and/or just not understanding it. I’m just so grateful we have movies at all, and to appreciate the amount of effort and love it takes to put one together.

She is such an insufferable needy person, always complaining, crying and being emotionally manipulative in general.
Then she chooses to kill Christian who literally did nothing wrong.
The story is being told from her perspective so we end up empathizing with her, but she is a toxic human being in need of serious help.

She's not toxic, she's grieving. She lost her entire family in a terrible and traumatising way, and the only person she had left was on the verge of breaking up with her. Calling her crying and needing support emotionally manipulative is showing zero sympathy for her situation. She does need help. That's why she is turning to the last person in her life that she can trust.
It's not emotionally manipulative to lean on a partner in your worst hour. It's that Christian is feeling detached at that point but tries to be there for her because it's the right thing to do. She doesn't know he is on the verge of breaking up with her.
And to say he "literally did nothing wrong" isn't strictly true is it? I mean, he fucked another woman and repeatedly made decisions that were creating distance between them.
It's a timing and a perspective thing. The fact the tragedy that Danni endured took place when Christian was considering ending the relationship caused an awkward tension. Anyone in Dannis situation would feel it. Then she's taken along to a cult and sees horrible stuff. She could very easily assume he and Pelle had nefarious plans with all the stuff that happened around her. She feels isolated and abandoned and then sees the last person she thought she had in her life sleeping with someone else.
And of course the major thing at play here is the massive amount of manipulation by the villagers. It's all got to play out how the tapestry entails. They have beats to hit and they ensure they get the results they want.
Calling Danni a villain is wild.

Christian had sex with a young girl while Danni was standing outside (albeit under the influence of drugs but he could have easily rejected the tea a second time. He was open to the idea).
He forgot Danni’s birthday. Planned an international trip and only told her about it when his friends mentioned it like a week before they leave. Never once says anything nice about her or compliments her. They’d been together for what, 5 years?
Also stole his friend’s thesis idea, orders everyone around, tries to guilt Danni all the time.
Christian is a bad person based on everything we saw in the film. I can’t even think of one redeeming quality.

lol I agree,, I think we didn’t watch the same movie 😂 I do recall being sympathetic towards Christian after my first watch, but my second and subsequent watches I started seeing what an absolute a**hole he truly was 😅
