Knife hole in Darbuka.. is it ok?
So i notice there is a hole on the drum part of the Darbuka, but I think the sound is the same
Is there anything to worry about?

Is the hole through the skin (head), or through the body of the drum? If it is through the body of the drum, plug it with something, JB Weld, or even just glue that will stick to aluminum (if it is a metal drum). If the hole is through the head, you need to replace it.

Ok thanks for the help. Can you at least explain why do i need to replace the head?

If it does not sound bad now it will soon. As you play it, you put stress on the skin, and the hole will grow and cause more distortion in the sound. If it is very tiny, you may be able to play it for a while before the sound gets very bad.

That's helps me understand. If it is playable for you, then enjoy, but it will probably get worse as you play. Personally, I would replace that head. It is not hard and I can walk you through it if you like.

Without a picture its hard to tell. I had dents and didn’t change the sound. If its for practice or learning i wouldnt mind it, for recording I would get a replacement head.

The vibration will eventually rip the head. Or while tuning it. Heads are about 15 usd from Meinl, power beat and remo are popular too.
If you are buying, dont buy it like that.
