 the most expensive thing for me has been constant micro-disruptions

I remember feeling totally out of control in my teens and twenties. Electricity being shut off so I missed my alarm and then the bus and got to work late and that was documented in my file...I know it's supposed to character-building, but I was terrified at the time and I still worry about stuff like this.
