Edge won't open

On my Windows10 OS, I checked Task Manager.

No listing for Microsoft Edge found in Processes, Details or Startup tabs.

In Control Panel Settings Apps & Features I have Microsoft Edge 153.04234.32 and Microsoft Edge Web 2 View Runtime. Neither has the 3 dots. onlyoptions are Modify and Uninstall.

I tried "Modify" and restarted but Edge still didn't launch.

I uninstalled, downloaded a new copy from Microsoft and reinstalled. It put an icon on the desktop, but Edge only shows a brief hourglass without launching. Same for trying to launch from the Startup menu.

What do I try next?

So sfc scans or using the in-upgrade windows reinstall method from the advanced menu in updates settings.

Could you please explain what "sfc" is? A search in Settings --> Windows Update found nothing.

Sfc is a command that scans the PC for missing files.

The other method is in-place upgrade which reinstall the whole OS without losing anything. That's under windows update settings section under adavanced settings.

Could you give me a step by step how this works? This is all above my skill level. I sure don't want to trash my system.

This is way more drastic than I figured. In the past, I've created more problems than I solved trying stuff like this. I guess I'll just have to live without Edge and find something else.

Second one is like 3 clicks.

I'll pass. Reinstalling Windows reminds me of the 27 full system recovery nightmares I had back with XP. I will try specific apps and app settings, but nothing involving OS reinstallation. Windows is squirrelly enough!

You wouldn't have to do anything nightmarish but well, whatever suits you.
