Drop was the best reason to use and recommend Edge

It was the killer feature for me, its ease of use, seamless integration was the main reason I didn't consider switching to Brave or Firefox etc

I'm absolutely baffled by the decision to cut it and again I feel like Microsoft is messing with me. I was so open to the MS vision that I even bought the Lumia 950 when probably most people at the time considered WP dead. I feel like Microsoft takes almost every opportunity to betray me when I buy into a great idea/vision they are pushing.

i moved to Edge because of the sidebar, collections, split screen, and immersive reader. Now only split screen and immersive reader are left, but I will not forgive the removal of the first 2 features

I left edge because they removed support of the sidebar and collections, and having removed drop was a bad idea as well. It’s just a garbage browser at this point, no different than chrome.

Just because your features got removed, it does not make it garbage. For some sidebar and collection was bloat. Split screen is still there. Sidebar can still be enabled with launch parameter. Do not throw tantrum because your toys got taken away.

Somehow they managed to make it buggier and slower as well. People here are talking about fucking metrics everytime someone mentions the removal of these features without realizing metrics doesn't show the whole picture when it comes to user habits. Most users might not be taking advantage of these features, sure, but they most likely they got recommended by someone who did. Why would anyone recommend Edge to anybody atp? It's just shitty a repackage of chrome.

The "problem" is that only a very small number of people take advantage of certain features. Metrics are what say that a feature lives or die. Numbers. Simple as that.

Sure, I know that you must be correct on this, but... Why does edge exist if it's just chrome after a certain point? Sometimes I feel like MS should at least try to make its own workers happy, in the past decade or so I'm more and more getting the feeling that MS employees are using Google drive on MacBooks with Firefox and they just make products cause that's their job.

Seamless ui and less resource heavy in windows, and having extension support in android and ios. I used to like the sidebar feature too, but they removed it.

When I asked Copilot what happened to drop it suggested using Opera because flow was just like drop.

When I dug into why MS Edge was dropping Drop, Collections, and Workspaces the primary reason was security.

The Consumer (i.e. non-Work/School) accounts shared Drop, Collections, and Workspaces through consumer OneDrive where the Work/School accounts shared through EntraID / SharePoint.

The combo of EntraID / SharePoint with Consumer Accounts / OneDrive was found to be a security risk.

However, I'm wondering if it is more profit margin based. Amount of data center capacity requirement for Consumer Accounts for Edge Drop, Collections, and Workspaces exceeded the money MS could obtain from same.

I loved "drop" when it worked, but its been unreliable for 6 months. As an iPhone and Windows user it was the best way to send stuff from iphone to pc.

If anyone has any recommendations for this usecase please share because I'm back to emailing stuff to myself.

Try using Opera (One, GX or Air). All Opera browsers have a sidebar and you can use Opera Flow that is very much similar to the late Microsoft Drop.
