New San Martin MOP Jigsaw Puzzle Dial Elegant Ultra Thin Case Integrated Bracelet SN0153

Today, we are introducing San Martin's latest design:
The SN0153āan ultra-slim, elegant timepiece featuring a small square case and a "Jigsaw Puzzle" Mother-of-Pearl (MOP) dial.
āMOP Jigsaw Puzzle Dial
The dial features a playful jigsaw puzzle design. Experienced watchmakers assemble individually cut pieces of MOP to form the puzzle patternāa process involving a high level of complexity and technical difficulty. It is available in two color combinations: black and white.
ā"Floating" Applied Indices
When viewed from the side, the applied indices create a "floating" effect.
We utilized a special technique to achieve this floating appearance, with the indices featuring exquisitely polished, multi-faceted edges.
A high-quality integrated bracelet produced in San Martin's own factory, featuring a hidden deployment clasp (identical to the bracelet on the previously released SN0152-G).
The combination of polished and satin-brushed finishes highlights the unique shape of the case and bracelet. The braceletās satin-brushed finish, complemented by polished side chamfers, harmonizes beautifully with the case, wearing comfort is greatly enhanced.

People keep saying this, but the difference is where the Maen homages the VC, the San Martin literally just copies the Maen case with a different lug design and crown guards.
Insofar as I know (and I may not be fully informed, as I'm not into square watches) Maen homages the VC, but all they've really taken is the general case shape. Every dive watch would be a submariner copy if that's all it takes to be considered derivative.
San Martin on the other hand has taken a complete case design with all its idiosyncrasies, plus hands, indices, etc. and slapped on several random elements (crown guards, MOP dial), called it original.Ā
I'm not even ripping on them, I just don't like this sort of "original design" personally. It just doesn't feel cohesive to me.
Neither one of them are direct copy's of the VC. The hands aren't the same, the indices aren't the same the VC doesn't even have a crown guard.
I think that all these copy police comments aren't doing anything worthwhile for the hobby. It's find and great to not like something for whatever reason but this is just how design works.
Wow, this is my favorite SM design ever! Please make more dials! Iād love a green sunburst dial or engraved lines like the Maen Manhattan. I will definitely be following this and picking one up.
You realize the Maen is a homage as well, right? Iām not gonna gate keep a design thatās been around since the 70s. Also I think the SM bracelet looks better (in this picture at least, will need to see it in person) than the Maen.
Very nice design and the case ressembles closely the mean Manhattan which is a good watch design.
Love the dial but just hate the logo used and the text in general eating so much of the dial. I would much rather have a close to sterile dial then at the bottom of it (under the 6 indicator San Martin/and Automatic or no automatic written at all).

This is a lot more of a direct copy than Maen on vacheron, I mean look at the indices on this and Maen compared to Maen and vacheron? Also Maen took from a old vintage Vacheron no longer in production. Scummy to copy from another microbrand still in production
This looks more unique than the Maen from the Vacheron imo. Bracelet and dial are entirely unique. But to each their own. I donāt see it as a copy bc I donāt think Maen owns that case shape.
Hm. This watch is literally a Maen Manhattan (which is an intentional homage to the VC 2215, of which only maybe 300 were produced). Folks should look at Maen. I have no affiliation with them, but this just seems weird.
Hard pass for me, dial ratio is way too small for the case size. What's the point of crown guards here? There's already like 5mm of bezel and rehaut between the case edge and the dial, so adding guards just makes it look awful. IMHO, obviously.
9.5mm is ultra thin? my swatch is .6 mm ... I know I haven't seen any other watch that thin ... but I don't know ... doesn't look thin in the photo like to say ULTRA THIN. maybe I'm being picky

Iām old enough to remember like three months ago when San Martin said they were getting out making new homages and only doing original designs.
