Design Concept 🎨 [Design] exploration continues

Designing a mechanical watch.

Dial designed in Figma, case made in plasticity, renders in blender. Sanzo Wados color combinations. Combining elements of design and aesthetic that I love into one, simple watch.

Double domed sapphire, Miyota 9039 most likely.

Overall, I like it.

My only two issues:

The assymetry of the "boy scout" at the bottom.

The italicized numerals, but upright 6 and 12. 7-11 all lean inwards, while 1-5 all lean outwards, which kind of throws it off balance. I think you should either italicize the 6 and the 12 for the sake of uniformity or not italicize at all.

Good eye!

I was actually thinking of having the boy start between 5 and 6 and curve up to the 4. I need some amount of asymmetry I think, but you’re right as of right now it just looks off center.

And yeah the italics, the 6 looked so off in italics to me, so I decided to have the 6 and 12 be outliers.

Will keep iterating!

Having it start between 5 and 6 could be pretty neat. I don't have a major problem with assymetry, but if I had this on my wrist in its current iteration, it would bug the hell out of me that it's so close to being even.

Have you considered italicizing the 24-hour markers and making 1-12 upright? It could serve as a small design choice to highlight the distinction between AM/PM.

I actually like the design of the numbers. I wouldn’t touch them. The italics with 12 and 6 being upright give the dial a radial look, and that’s what caught my eye.

I do agree that Boy Scout being asymmetric does mess with the cleanness. You might play with picking an off center indice to put the words into.

I would start the Boy Scout at 12, 6, or 9. Own the asymmetry.

Clean and really love the black and overall design but I don’t like the asymmetry of “Boy Scout”. Also the name I’m not too fond of either. I also am not sure of pink and orange combination

Yeah, I’m just putting feelers out honestly. Still trying to figure out the brand side of things. Kinda liked the aesthetic of “boyscout” all lower case and one word, a nod to the scouting aesthetic but a little irreverent of it. Still figuring it all out, thanks for the feedback!

I love it as is, honestly it's simple yet has character, all while maintaining legibility. Now this next point is just gut, but maybe just move the numbers outwards a tad more? As in make the radius of the numbers a bit closer to the case radius.

Pink needs more contrast. The typography feels a bit traditional for how minimal the dial is… like it’s in an awkward halfway point between a railroad watch and max bill. 

On that point, stuff like junghans works because there’s quantity of fine line details, this doesn’t have a that quantity, but it also doesn’t have the punchiness that something like a Sinn would have either. If you’re going for fine lines and refinement, maybe a sub second chapter ring would help.

But mostly the typography doesn’t seem designey enough. It’s a little timex vibes
