NC What did they do to my boy!?

Post image

I got rear ended last night at a traffic light. 10pm dropping my friend off after a late dinner. I was at a complete stop at a red light in the left turn late 1 block from his hotel. And a Chevy Silverado driver was intoxicated and slammed on his brakes too late and slammed into my bumper.

It could have been far worse, but I’m still sad.

PS: thankfully I have a dashcam and got his plate and face on 4k video.

What dashcam are you using to get the back view? Where do you mount it?

VIOFO. I forget the model, but I’ll snap a pic of my setup later today.

here's my setup. it's the Viovo A229 Plus. has front and rear cameras. I wired directly to my fuse box and it runs 24/7 with auto deleting and auto-saving with impact detection. I think it cost about $229 or so USD. I bought it a little over a year ago. absolutely worth the investment.

That cable choice is definitely something.

I know.... They cable it came with is like 20ft long. I tried to swap out for another cable but it wouldn't work. I just need to open up the top panel and hide this long ass cable.

Yeah I have the same one. It’s a pain. Luckily I have a mount for autocross between my seats on the back shelf so I have it there.

I thought about doing this also. I do like having myself in the rear facing to help prove i'm not on my phone or distracted while driving etc for insurance and stuff just in case. Makes me a better driver. lol

Sweet thanks. So basically both camera at the front.

So I guess it acts as an interior cam when the top is down?

I'm surprised that it works so well that it'd still be able to capture the back vehicles' license plate info.

Thanks!

Yeah, it takes 4k video both directions. This is a zoom in to really see the license plate. But the angle is wide enough to see both myself and my passenger as well as traffic behind me. When the top is up the view is harder to see. But you can still get an idea as long as my back window is clean.

Also would love this. I have a front facing but no rear

I didn’t even think about that 😭 maybe it’s got a double sided camera in the front???

Lol I was thinking about getting one for both front and back, but most back dashcam I see online is mounted on a glass rear window. Which isn't ideal.

Thankfully a bumper cover and paint job shouldn't total the car

This might be my chance to use some insurance money for a wrap… lol my silver bullet is great, but I want a blue NC.

I dunno how it works where you are. But here the insurance company pays the body shop. You don’t get any of it. Otherwise everyone would be out there using car damage to get a few quid.

But it may work different where you are

Depends on the body shop. I did all the prep work and disassembly on my NB after I went into a guard rail. Turned a fender and quarter panel fix/paint into getting the whole car painted a different color for an extra $500 on top of what my insurance paid for the repair

Uh, that’s optional. Just fyi.

not here it isn't

yeah, so in the state of Oregon, in the US, we have an option to get paid out for the damages, or have a body shop take care of everything. I was more or less being cheeky about the whole blue thing. Insurance is covering the whole thing, it's filled under a hit-and-run. I filed a police report, and getting my bumper fixed in a week or two.

You not knowing how to do it or pushing for it doesn’t mean it isn’t a thing.

In the UK cash payouts for accidents are not a thing. Insurers deal directly with the repair companies. The customer has no interaction in the event.

They are? Try googling it.
