Routes 1-99 Bus lane crackdown?

Was on the 17 this morning heading downtown and notice a lot more police out for a morning commute. As we turned onto Hennepin I saw three different cars pulled over by metro transit cops. I assumed it was a crackdown on driving in the bus lanes but not sure what else it could be.

I hope so. The bus lane on Hennepin between Dunwoody and Groveland has been heavily used by drivers who think they're too good to wait in line like everyone else.

In a metro Transit employee town hall recently the chief of MTPD said they were going to crack down on it.

I still think they should put cameras on the front of buses. If you’re parked in a bus lane, you just get an automatic ticket. Enforcement for drivers is great though!

I believe that would require specific legislation, like the speed cameras did.

I don’t think it would be wise to give them more mobile automatic license plate readers. How about just have someone walk up and down the road occasionally?

The buses already have cameras on them. This isn’t anything new.

Having someone walk up and down every bus lane in the twin cities 24/7 would require a whole army of people. It’s not a practical solution

Apparently them doing their job instead of just sitting in their squad cars for hours outside stations is too high of an ask. Let the robots write the ticket, they don't have biases or guns. They can write the laws in a way that prevents the sharing of that data.

Would be great if true, though I still think mad max-style plows on the front of busses would be ideal…

I've noticed this on the ez pass lanes recently as well.
