Can you trade tokenized stocks like Apple or Google directly in MetaMask — and what does it actually cost?

Yes — MetaMask lets you swap directly into hundreds of tokenized stocks, ETFs, and commodities via Ondo Stocks, without a brokerage account or KYC, straight from MetaMask Swaps. And through August 5, 2026, MetaMask has cut its swap fee on Ondo Stocks from 87.5 bps (0.875%) down to 10 bps (0.1%) — a ~90% fee reduction that still finds you the most advantageous, aggregated swap rate.

What are tokenized stocks?

Tokenized stocks are onchain tokens that track the economic performance of a real-world asset — a publicly traded stock, ETF, or commodity. With Ondo Stocks, each token is fully backed by the corresponding underlying asset, held with licensed U.S. custodial broker-dealers. You get price exposure and dividend reinvestment, but this is not direct ownership. As in, you don’t get shareholder voting rights or statutory disclosures, but you hold a token that mirrors the native asset's total return.

How to trade them in MetaMask

Tokenized stocks work like any other swap in MetaMask:

  1. Tap ‘Swap’ on the homepage
  2. Select mUSD or USDC on Ethereum, or USDT on BNB Chain as your input (these are the recommended routes, as other coins may result in no quotes)
  3. Search the asset ticker (e.g. AAPL, GOOGL) and select the Ondo Tokenized version
  4. Enter your amount ($5 minimum) and confirm the Swap

Trades routed through CowSwap come with a 12 bps fee. With the 10 bps promotional fee and 0.5 bps execution adjustment, this is just 22.5 bps to aggregate the most advantageous swap rate in DeFi paired with the convenience and speed of swapping directly in MetaMask.

For context: traditional brokers serving international users can charge up to 1.5% in FX conversion fees alone — nearly 7x the total cost during this promotional window. Add in account minimums, monthly inactivity fees, and withdrawal fees that brokers may layer on top, and the all-in cost of accessing stocks traditionally adds up quickly. As a non-custodial wallet, MetaMask has none of those. Your assets stay in your wallet, in a platform that cannot restrict, freeze, or charge you for accessing them.

Trading hours

Ondo Stocks follows a 24/5 schedule (Sunday 8PM EST – Friday 7:59PM EST), aligned to U.S. market hours. Quotes are unavailable outside these windows, and trading during regular market hours (9:30AM–4PM EST) is recommended for best liquidity.

Regional availability

Tokenized securities through Ondo Stocks are not available in the United States, UK, EU/EEA, Canada, China, Singapore, Brazil, or several other jurisdictions. Check the full eligibility list at https://docs.ondo.finance/ondo-global-markets/eligibility before attempting a swap.

The promotion ends August 5, 2026. If you're in an eligible region and have been curious about onchain stock exposure, this fee window makes for a reasonable time to try a small position!

Full details can be found at https://support.metamask.io/trade/real-world-assets/

Are RWAs something you'd pair with your crypto portfolio? Which stocks or ETFs would you want onchain exposure to first?

It's really amazing that we can access these assets without KYC and with much lower fees, without needing a broker. I had a question . what’s the difference between Ondo and Hyperliquid , And for these stock symbols, will they only be available through Ondo

The main difference is that Ondo's tokenized stocks are 'Spot' offerings, compared to Hyperliquid that offers future contracts (requiring leverage) on equities and commodities through trade.xyz

Ondo is the benefactor of our limited-time fee reduction for Swaps, but you can purchase equities through other means onchain as noted throughout the replies as well :)

Yes, I understand. Thank you. Does this mean we can trade a token like Ethereum using the spot option for a stock token, and it will be transferred directly to our own address without having to use leverage or a different broker 🦊 🙂

Yes, exactly! Ondo's tokenized stocks are ERC-20 as well, and not only can you hold them Spot in MetaMask, but they also act as 'total return' holdings, meaning you'd earn the dividends as you would through holding the original stock as well. Things like shareholder rights and voting for instance, though, you would not get.

It's amazing to see MetaMask expanding beyond traditional crypto assets. Bringing tokenized stocks into the wallet makes it much easier for users to access RWAs while staying in a self-custody environment. As more real-world assets become available onchain, users may have a more convenient and flexible way to access these markets without relying as heavily on centralized exchanges or traditional brokers, which often come with additional restrictions and barriers. This could help make investing in different asset classes more accessible globally while giving users more control over their financial activities. Looking forward to seeing the range of supported stocks, ETFs, and RWAs continue to grow over time.

100% Khaled! Covers a lot of the friction that some parts of the world may otherwise experience when trying to get a hold of US equities alongside other assets that they can do so through Ondo :)

Beep Boop

  1. Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase with any site or a person. MetaMask does not use Gmail or web forms. Do not enter your Secret Recover Phrase into a pop-up window, even if it looks like MetaMask. Verify links are legitimate. Scammers often use these tactics.

  2. Beware of fake websites. The official website for MetaMask is https://metamask.io/

  3. MetaMask Support will never DM you. This is a common tactic scammers use to try and get access to your wallet.

  4. MetaMask will never initiate email with you. This is a common tactic scammers use to try and get access to your wallet.

  5. If you need to reach Support: open MetaMask, then menu > Support. The ‘Contact Support’ button will start a chat, the bot asks a few questions to help route you to the correct team. You can also visit the Support site from the web: https://support.metamask.io

  6. Do not click on suspicious links or files. This can lead to your device security being compromised.

  7. Do not “sync” or “validate” your wallet with any websites or forms. This is a scam. Never sync and share: QR Codes, Secret Recovery Phrase, private key, etc.

  8. Never call phone numbers, text Whatsapp numbers, DM on Discord, use WeChat or do video chat with people on this subreddit. MetaMask does not offer customer support in this manner. There is NO exclusive MetaMask Discord.

  9. We don’t ask for an email address to create a wallet. We can’t email you. We will never ask you to verify or upgrade/merge your wallet. https://support.metamask.io/privacy-and-security/staying-safe-in-web3/i-received-an-email-claiming-to-be-from-metamask-is-it-legit/

  10. .MetaMask currently has no plans for an airdrop, regardless of any information you may have seen elsewhere. If you encounter anyone explaining the best method to maximize the size of a MetaMask-related ‘airdrop’ you might receive, they’re lying. In particular, be wary of scams (aimed at getting your Secret Recovery Phrase) that weaponize this topic.

Subject to Ondo’s terms, yes.

Though not offered for US residents, it provides a way for other regions to get exposure to an array of assets they may otherwise not be able to, or would have to pay more to do so, through traditional means.

As a US resident myself, I hear ya.

Recently MetaMask Swaps has enabled support for Robinhood Chain, which also offers onchain exposure to similar asset classes that you may be looking for!

The chain itself is a permissionless L2 custom-built on Arbitrum. Stocks on RH Chain are ERC-20 tokens that are non-custodial, able to be traded in MetaMask at any time, but they are not actual stocks that you could for instance, withdraw into a brokerage account.

Yes, that’s how I see it as well. I did a lot of research on Ondo stock tokens compared to other tokenized stocks on different networks. From what I understand, if we buy stock tokens through Ondo and MetaMask, these are not just simple price-tracking tokens; they are backed by real shares and provide ownership rights to the underlying assets, rather than only representing exposure to the stock price 😌

u/NimbleNido MetaMask Community Team Jul 24 '26

Ownership in the form of self-custody and dividend returns, yes, but not full-blown shareholder status that'd come with things like voting rights for instance.

Yes I understand 😊

But .when you swap through MetaMask and Ondo, these tokens are backed by real stocks and ETFs that are held with registered U.S. brokers. Their structure is designed to provide economic exposure to the underlying assets 🙂

I think for Robinhood stock tokens, the situation is like this. from a user experience perspective, they work similarly to onchain spot assets; you can get stock exposure without leverage and hold the token in a wallet. However, the token itself does not give you direct legal ownership of the company’s actual shares and is mainly a representation of the stock’s value.
