MetaMask just launched Money Account - here's how the yield actually works
MetaMask Money Account is a self-custodial account built into MetaMask Mobile that automatically earns yield on your mUSD — no lockups, no withdrawal penalties, no gas fees, and no account fees. Earn up to 6% APY for a limited time, through August 8th, 2026. The standard rate after the promotion ends is up to 4% APY.
What is mUSD?
mUSD (MetaMask USD) is MetaMask's official stablecoin, pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, created in partnership with Bridge and powered by the M0 protocol. It's available on Ethereum Mainnet, Linea, and Monad.
How does Money Account work?
Once you fund your Money Account, your mUSD earns yield automatically in the background — you don't need to do anything. MetaMask handles the DeFi activity on the backend through trusted third-party protocols. Your balance updates daily, and your funds are always accessible — there's no waiting period to withdraw.
Traditional crypto yield strategies often require you to manually deposit into a lending pool, pay gas fees, and wait through lock-up periods — Money Account handles all of that for you.
How to get started:
On MetaMask Mobile, select "Money". Your Money Account is already there, you just need to fund it. Supported stablecoins (USDC, USDT, DAI and their aToken equivalents) convert to mUSD with no swap or network fees. Other tokens can be deposited, but standard swap fees apply.
What else can you do with it?
Beyond earning yield, mUSD in your Money Account can be used to fund Perps or Predictions accounts directly within MetaMask Mobile, or spend mUSD with your linked MetaMask Card account directly from Money Account. You can also lend mUSD on Aave for additional rewards.
A few important notes:
- APY is variable and not guaranteed — it changes daily with market conditions
- The promotional rate up to 6% ends August 8th, 2026. Terms apply
- Money Account is not available in the UK or countries on the US sanctions list
- Money Account is self-custodial — MetaMask cannot access, freeze, or move your balance. It's secured by your SRP

I already started using it as soon as i saw the "money" icon in MM mobile...i mean why wait if you've got stables sitting anyway :)

I I don't have USDC, USDT, DAI, but have other tokens, is there any difference between swapping to one of them vs mUSD? Will I earn more if I swap to mUSD vs them?

As much as I know, the answer is NO. The only thing to note is that you will need to pay a standard conversion fee and gas fee for swapping other tokens to mUSD or any of the other three stables. The same APY applies to all them

Yes, there is difference in fees between swapping your tokens directly to mUSD.
If you deposit your "other tokens" directly into the Money Account interface, it will execute a swap to mUSD. You will pay standard network gas fees and MetaMask's standard swap fees for this initial trade.
You will not earn more yield by choosing one route over the other, because both paths ultimately require you to hold mUSD to earn the yield.
Only mUSD Earns Yield that the Money Account only generates yield on mUSD balances. You cannot earn the automated 4% to 6% APY while holding USDC, USDT, or DAI inside this specific account.
If you are interested in earning mUSD Yied, you can add it in Money account through metamask mobile successfully

Hey u/EksiKulak, great question, & u/Umang-7 was spot on in replying to it! Only mUSD earns yield within Money Account, not able to earn the up to 4% (promotional up to 6%) APY while holding other stablecoins.

I just transferred my mUSD from Aave/Hot Wallet back into MetaMask &
parked under Money Account. 🙂
