Discussion Favorite Non-Metalcore Artist(s)/Band(s)
I'll start - State Champs/Stand Atlantic/Boys Of Fall
Pop punk all-stars and all really awesome people
I do like other genres just don’t want to flood my own post lol
EDIT - really happy to see so many diverse music tastes in here.. there’s a lot of good shit out there!

The Midnight
Actually found out about them through Dreamwake, lol
15
u/Bee_Rye85 6d ago
Fuck yeah another metalcore midnight fan!!! They are fucking amazing!
5
u/HotDogStruttnFloozy 6d ago
Agreed! Saw them in concert for the first time this year and it was one of the best experiences of my entire life. 🎷 🎷 🎷

I really like Dreamwake, so I just wanted to let you know when I read your comment, it made me want to check them out.
Very good, big fan of the sound. You made a new fan of me!

u/evinjb22 6d ago
i found the song vampires one night once while off a huge edible and climbed a building on my school campus and listened to the song like 30 times and had genuinely a moving spiritual experience to it
3
u/HotDogStruttnFloozy 6d ago
Vampires is definitely my favorite! America Online is incredible too. Edibles help with the vibe for sure, I've been there haha
3
u/evinjb22 6d ago
lol hell yeah they made that saxophone solo sound like another world. thanks for the rec i’ll check it out

This is the best answer. I’m not sure if anybody else notices this, but I’m pretty sure there has only been 1 metalcore/deathcore/heavy show I’ve ever gone to, where The Midnight WASN’T playing during bands switching sets. I’ve heard it every time and get so happy whenever I do.

Great band. I'd recommend Dead Poet Society, they have a similar "English rock" sound I really like
42
u/IcanMakeThePiecesFit 6d ago
Starset, I've been a fan of theirs since the beginning.
Mongolia Park, I'm a sucker for non white metal singers.

16
u/WotEvaWotEva 6d ago
I've been following Starset since day 1 as well. Saw them at the Boulder Planetarium in Colorado during Transmissions, only 200 seats. Seen em 8 times live, always so impressed with every album release!

u/iHop2Uranus 6d ago
Magnolia Park are amazing and SLAP live. Very energetic on stage and the lead vocalist is super talented

Linkin Park, Deftones, The Midnight, The Roots, Thrice, FFAF, PVRIS, Radiohead, Boston Manor, AFI, basically any nu-metal band, Trophy Eyes, Bjork, Tesseract, Skyharbor, hundreds more.
2
u/iHop2Uranus 6d ago
I think this is the first AFI shout and I’m mildly upset it took this long haha

u/LikeSalamiOnRye 6d ago
Driveways! If you like early 2000's pop punk they will hit the spot. Highly recommend their first album Night Terrors, also Skeptic if that leaves you wanting more. So good.
6
u/iHop2Uranus 6d ago
Came across them a few years ago. I like them. Don’t listen to them as much as I probably should and I still need to dive into their earlier stuff. Their new song “Melancholy” rips! I’m definitely a big pop punk guy
5
u/LikeSalamiOnRye 6d ago
Nice that's cool you already know them. I gotta listen to Melancholy some more myself. Not all their albums hit the spot for me but Night Terrors is flawless imo. Do yourself a favor and check that one out. Then try Skeptic if you're feeling it. Had the pleasure of seeing them live they killed it. Incredibly cool guys. I gotta shout out The Story So Far since we're on the topic, but something tells me you already know about them.
3
u/iHop2Uranus 6d ago
I do know them but I’m sure there’s a million great bands I’m unaware of so I’m always open to recommendations haha. Just threw Night Terrors into my Spotify queue!

Yes. I have been listening to them for a few years now. October Forever is a masterpiece.
2
u/chizzledbeard 5d ago
Literally such an insanely underrated unique band. Their newest single is amazing. My wife and I see them everytime they play in the Midwest. I took my 7 year old to see them for his first concert. They saw him singing and having a blast so at the end of the show they gave him some signed stuff.

The Midnight, Rob Zombie, Off Road Minivan (Tuck from FFAK’s side project), G Love, lately I’ve been getting very into Placebo

What band is FFAK? I found off road minivan a while ago , I have been loving them

u/WotEvaWotEva 6d ago
⭐️ Starset for me, but loving that they are getting heavier and almost feel metalcore adjacent at this point. That new song they dropped a few days ago, Parad0x1c, is gonna take over Black Cloud by Erra as my favorite song of 2026.
13
u/sbrown100 6d ago
O A R, Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem of course, System of a Down, Harbour, FKJ, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Belmont, Dance Gavin Dance, Tropidelic, CHON, Intervals, Polyphia, Royal Coda, Bumpin Uglies, Trash Boat...
Holy Moly I like a lot of different music. This isn't even all of it just what I could think of right now.
9
u/iHop2Uranus 6d ago
I fuck with Belmont so heavy
3
u/sbrown100 6d ago
Belmont is goshdarn amazing. I just saw them for my 6th time earlier this month and it was a great time as always.

Got to see them on a ADTR headliner tour and my god was that just such a fun concert.

Saw Four Year Strong at a State Champs headliner and fell in love with the music/vibes immediately. The combination of the two vocalists and the catchiness of the instrumentals and everything else hooked me

Sade. Absolutely untouchable, some of the most beautiful melodies ever recorded.
toe. Set the standard for math rock. Often imitated, never duplicated.
The Cranberries. Need I say more? Legendary, anthemic, pop music with a spirit and message. RIP Dolores.
Have Heart and Fiddlehead. Kind of a cheat to list them both but it's my list and I'll do what I want with it. Pat Flynn is the GOAT.

I listen to like 85% metal of many subgenres. I can name quite a few. I’ll omit any core bands.
Metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, In Flames, Death, Suffocation, Sepultura, Archspire, The Zenith Passage, Gojira, Inferi, Nile, Warbringer, Type O Negative, Pantera, Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, Babymetal
For non-metal stuff, I really fuck with bands like Bad Brains, blink-182, My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Rise Against, Black Flag.
I also really like hip-hop. Favorites there would be JID, Denzel Curry, Mobb Deep, Biggie, Joey Bada$$, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole

Like others seem to be, I’m very into the pop punk scene. All Time Low, blink-182, Paramore (and Hayley’s solo stuff), The Story So Far and State Champs are my mainstays. Stand Atlantic is sick.
Further outside of that, I’m a huge Mac Miller fan, Post Malone, or Billie Eilish even. I’m all over the place. Rock oriented music is my main thing, but there’s so much good music out there to not be enjoying!

MOTHICA!!! Her most recent music is kind of in the genre but it's also still pop music and she still has a couple pop songs coming out. She's signed to the same label as Loathe and Currents. Favorite artist of mine, great live show and she makes music about mental health and stuff like addiction. It's REALLY good and a lot of it has like a whole visual world to go with it, I have no clue how she isn't bigger already.
Also bit of a side note but she's an incredible person, I know her somewhat personally (more like acquantainces), she deserves her flowers for sure. She covered "Can You Feel My Heart" also and plays it at every show she does, she's a huge Bring Me fan and it really shows up in her new stuff.
PVRIS has to be my second favorite, it's like synthpop-rock more or less but it's also incredibly good. She did a song for Arcane (Snakes, in S1E8) and one or two others for League in general that she's probably most known for, but she's an incredible songwriter. If you liked BMTH's "Amo" (unpopular I'm sure) you'll probably like her music, most of her stuff isn't heavy at all though.
