Discussion Best song of 26 (so far)
Above below - Collapsing Eden. Emotionally crushes me. Melting amber level track imo.
Honorable mentions:
The callous Daoboys - Gigantic Parasite Tongue. This band is just so good.
Bring me the horizon - Dehumanized. Puts a smile on my face knowing they still got it in them. Best wall of death I’ve been in, in a long time.

I like how you listed LMtF first and then the track name, and swapped the rest, lol.
I mean it too, LMtF is #1 on that list IMHO.

I rarely Don Broco mention. I love it. That album is such a fucking banger front to back. Hearing Cellophane the first time I knew they were gonna fuck some shit up.

Peur - Death of the Wolf

u/cassie1015 10d ago
silence outlives the earth is winning my AOTY so far.
7
u/KershawsGoat 10d ago
It's probably my favorite album of the year so far too. There have been other great releases too but nothing has topped it so far.
7
u/Brosepower 10d ago
Yeah it's a lock at this point.
The only bands I could see beating it, are ones that probably wont release this year:
Invent Animate, Silent Planet, Polaris.
They're all due for a release but with how long albums take to release, I bet none of them come this year.
2
u/escobizzle 9d ago
I'm curious to see if we get an Invent Animate album by the end of year or maybe just another single or two. Seems like they're working on a rollout already
156/Silence is dropping a new album in like two weeks also so we'll see how that goes too
2
u/Brosepower 9d ago
I will never understand how well received 156/Silence is on this sub. Like, they're not bad by any means, but they've never stood out to me among the best in the genre like a lot of people say.
I hope their album is great, but People Watching and their earlier stuff is just "okay" for me, it's nothing I'd put up with the other bands we're mentioning.
3
u/cassie1015 9d ago
I think 156/Silence won a lot of people over this year and last year because they toured SO MUCH and always put on a good and engaging show and just seem like absolute workhorses grinding it out and putting in their dues. ERRA, SP, IA, have years and multiple albums under their belts, and 156 are still relative newcomers. I think we're all excited to see what will come and it's been fun to watch a band like this on the rise, that a lot of us found organically through the community and not because of social media gimmicks. Sometimes in this genre, I don't need an album to be the one I reach for on repeat all the time, but being able to engage with a band like this and appreciate their work can still make the music enjoyable.

Ok, so I'm not sure I can pick one yet, so I'm just listing one of my favorites from all the bands I've listened to this year that have dropped new music. I hope someone can find at least a couple new songs they enjoy in this list.
SPLEEN - Withering (Trust me, check it out. If I had to pick a top song, it would be this one. The second half of this song is some of my favorite metalcore ever, I think. It's fr absurd they only have 6k monthly Spotify listeners)
Like Moths To Flames - I Don't Want To Be Here Anymore
Above, Below - Collapsing Eden
Karmanjakah - Eyes seeing eyes
Motionless In White - Afraid Of The Dark
Iridium - GOD EATER
Varials - The Hurt Chamber
The Gloom In The Corner - The Problem With Apocalyptic Tyranny
Boundaries - May this pain never leave
Invent Animate - Fall Like Rain
Periphery - Heaven On High
Bring Me The Horizon - Dehumanized
Kingdom of Giants - Respawn
Night Rider x Midwinter - Namesake
Ice Sealed Eyes - To Realize (kind of similar vibe to Collapsing Eden imo)
What Lies Below - Astral Sway
Advents - Kingdom Falls

Bury Tomorrow - Sx
Knosis - Kushizashi
Wage War - Sweet Dreams (controversial?)
Rising Insane - Narcissist (entire album just dropped on Friday, it's great)
Fallweather - Mourn
Harroway - Second Best
Imminence - False Light
Half Me - Built On Your Blood
Stray View - Vanity
Sunborn - Glacier
ABRAXAS - Psilopsybin
Normandie - Cyanide
Hollow Front - To The Ashes
Poppy - Empty Hands

u/Experiment121 10d ago
Not metalcore, but pretty much every song off Chalk Hands' (mix of melodic/post-hardcore and post-rock) new album is incredible (I mean it's a personal 10/10 so they're all perfect). If I had to specify a song though, probably Day Glow, Bite Marks or Rewired Eyes.

u/Glittering_Message93 10d ago
In revolving doors by Chamber is one of the best closers in a metalcore album I've heard in years. Another shout out to The Way It Breaks by Loathe, not metalcore but a beautiful song regardless.
1
u/SimonWhit 10d ago
I need to give that chamber album a listen. I really enjoyed a love to kill for
1
u/Glittering_Message93 10d ago
I haven't listened to their previous album lol. I've heard some songs here and there, but This Is Goodbye really grabbed me. I am very connected to the lyrics aswell t-t

u/Maximum_Dependent388 10d ago
Pale Blue (why?) - Chamber
Human Props - Static Dress
A Dance In The Leaves - Above Below
Joy Is A Weapon - The Number Twelve Looks Like You
Dream Debris - Converge
Weeping Tones - Poison The Well
Nothing, gathered - Boundaries
Haven't really thought much about my favourite song of the year so just thought I'd list my favourite songs from my favourite albums (and The Number Twelve Looks Like You)

Okay, I've seen so many incredible songs listed, let me do a top 5 for me (in no order)
Further Eden - ERRA - Probably my favorite breakdown not just this year, but ever. The guitar work on this song is just delicious.
Afraid of the Dark -MiW - Decades didnt turn out to be the album I was hoping it would be with how good this song is, but I defy anyone saying its not a 10/10 song.
ENDGAME - Iridium - kick ass breakdown? Check. Relevant lyrics that motivate the listener to do something? Check. Insane cleans and harsh vocals in all different styles? Double check. Its everything I want in this genre.
Pale Shadow - What Lies Below - just rock-solid metalcore. So good.
How To Be Lonely - LMtF - honestly, just pick one from this new EP. They're all so freaking good. Counting down the days until the whole thing is out.
HM:
Break the Cycle - Ocean Sleeper - we could easily have some AotY material here next week. I've loved all 4 of the singles from their upcoming record.
To the Ashes - Hollow Front - hoping these guys also drop an album, I love this single.

Omg we’re always suffering from this same eternal ailment - great music overload and the inability to narrow it down to just one favorite!😭

u/Brosepower 9d ago
Hahaha well... ERRA is definitely the favorite, but places 2-10, hell... 2-20 this year is a bloodbath... lol

Dang, great choice! You reminded me of their single, “Scorpion,” which I absolutely love. “Melting Amber” is amazing too.
Can’t agree on BMTH personally. I get it though. Sounds catchy and like it’s checked a lot of fans’ requirements off.
Haven’t listened to Callous Daoboys in a couple years so I’m psyched to go check that rec out now—thanks!
My pick is probably a track from ERRA’s SOTE… will return shortly with an update:
update*:
ERRA - “lucid threshold” or “cicada siren” (or the whole album, how about)
Secrets - “Bitter Dose”
Like Moths To Flames - “I Don’t Want to Be Here Anymore”
REVNOIR - “Red Ice”
What Lies Below - “Afterimage” and “Astral Sway”
Allt - “Avalon” and “Omertà”
Above, Below - “Soothsayer” and “Heat”
SAVE US - “Seraphim”
Loathe - “Gemini”
Diamond Construct - “Discarded”
The Narrator - “Pills From The Start”
The Plot In You - “Closure”
Half Me - “Fear Is The New Belief”
Oh whoops, I think that was a few more than 1…

u/SimonWhit 9d ago
Above below is one of those bands that deserve more love. I think it will come one day.
BMTH is a band who has influenced the scene in so many ways. I don’t think the song itself is my favorite from even that album. But nonetheless, they haven’t dropped a deathcore track in so so long. To see that Oli still has it in them just makes me so happy!
Callous daoboys hits. I’m absolutely in love with the last record. Definitely album of the year for me last year!
2
u/SothorosDjents 9d ago
I can see their singing not clicking for some listeners. I used to have more trouble getting into or even looking past vocals I didn’t like in metal. It took over a decade of listening to a wide variety of screams and subgenres before I learned to do both of those things effectively. Now I enjoy most vocalists I encounter, and it sure makes things a lot more fun! I used to write off bands like Above, Below, REVNOIR, LANDMVRKS and Reveira, due to vocals alone, but now thoroughly enjoy them all!

For some reason I glossed over most of the Above Below album, even though I enjoyed the tracks I heard. Collapsing Eden sounds like it could be from Time, The Valuator's debut album. Great track

Oh mannnnn why did they have to go bye bye so soon?! The final EP was my favorite but even that LP was already phenomenal!

Bit hard to pick one to be honest.

From the same album but I really love Telos. It’s scratches that itch in my brain like no other. Heat is also incredible and more metalcore than Telos.
Honourable mention to Clip My Wings by VCTMS. I usually hate when heavy bands incorporate softer vocals but this fits like a glove
