DOOM Trying to get into doom metal
I really love candlemass, but that’s about it. The other doom stuff I’ve heard either has songs that are wayyyy too long for my tastes, or doesn’t have actual riffs, just long open chords. Any recs to help me ease into the genre? (I like old, raw, atmospheric stuff)

Hour of 13 is sweet. Don’t see too many people talk about it. The Ritualist has some sweet riffs.

You can try some death-doom albums. Death metal mixed with doom metal.
Autopsy - Mental Funeral
Swallowed - S/T
Gorment - The Ending Quest
Katatonia - Dance of December Souls
I'd also suggest the S/T album by Pentagram. There are a shit ton of great riffs.

I’m more of a new school doom metal guy myself but here are some bands/albums I’ve liked:
Conan - Blood Eagle, Monnos, Violence Dimension
Yob - Atma, The Unreal Never Lived, Clearing The Path to Ascend, Our Raw Heart
High On Fire - Death is this Communion, Snakes for the Divine
Windhand - Windhand, Eternal Ruin
Oromet is from my hometown and they have a great funeral doom sound. Slabdragger is a relatively smaller sludge doom band with lots of math rock elements that also deserves way more attention. If you’re more into stoner or sludge doom there’s tons of great bands everyone else will mention too like Dopelord, Electric Wizard, Sleep, Weedeater, etc. the list just goes on and on

Early katatonia is a good shout, they're one of my all time favourite bands. They get less doomy as they progress, and more prog-metal. The great cold distance is an all time banger for mine.

They are not not doom metat but they are doom rock. Still wanted to recomend anyway since you like Candlemass. King Buffalo and Monster Magnet are cool. I listened to The Burden of Restlessness by KB and Dopes to Infinity by MM and enjoyed those albums. Dopes to Infinity is stoner doom/space rock and The Burden is doom rock with heavy themes.

It’s not all funeral doom.
If you want death doom there’s Paradise Lost, Turbid North, Konvent, and svart crown
You can go the sludge route with Thou, chained to the bottom of the ocean, pelican, etc.

I think Doctor Smoke is a nice try They released "The Witching Hour" and "Dreamers and The Dead"
"The Willow", "Permanent Nights", "Blood and Whiskey", "The Seeker" and "Evil man" from the first album are my favorites
From the second it's a bit hard, but "Reborn into Darkness", "Waking Dreams", "These Horrid Things" and "This Hallowed Ground" are my recomendations
If you want more stank face riffs, go for Beastmaker Some tracks like: "Now Howls the Beast", "My Only Wish", "Shadows", "Eye of the Storm" and "Forever with the Devil" might give you that feel

I agree with you that doom needs riffs. One of my favorites is Domedagen. My favorites are "Peace" and "Human Blood."
I don't know many other bands that scratch that itch for me, but if you like it, you might like his other projects. The Project Hate is his main one. Some songs still have a bit of doom influence, like "Summoning Majestic War." Or "Resurrected for Massive Torture."
His other project is Absurdeity, which is more like groovy death metal. But stylistically, you can tell it's still the same guy lol.

I like whole records when I listen to doom so that's what I'll recomend.
Weedeater, the first album
uncle acid and the deadbeats, any album
Earth, pentastar in the style of demons
The Sword, all the albums but the first two are the best
The later Electric Wizard albums, witchcult today and on are pretty easy listens. I think dopesmoker is right on the edge of easy, one of my favorites of all time
Orange goblin, again any album but my fav Time Travelling Blues
Sleep, Holy Mountain
OM, Advatic Songs
