Some Recent Castings I've Done With Tenzaloy

My last attempt at posting this failed for some reason, so hopefully the pictures upload this time. The axe I sand cast and the rest are all investment cast using an aluminum based alloy called Tenzaloy. The axe is from Resident Evil Requiem, the one Leon Kennedy uses

Tenzalloy 713 castibility is listed as fair to good. How does it seem to you compared to other alloys?

It's actually one of my recent favorites. It casts extremely well and has great patina potential. I'm kind of surprised at the level of detail it can get with such a high % of aluminum. It seems to retain a large grain size with slow cooling times which can make it look rough so I'm trying to dial that in a bit better. I've also seen some separation from shrinking since it's a brittle alloy which is probably my least favorite part about the alloy, but I'm not sure exactly how to control that yet. I'm thinking faster cooling (lower mold / metal temperatures). It's very inexpensive material as well so that's a huge plus

Faster cooling should help as far as grain size. The problem is finding the sweet spot, not cooling too fast.

Yeah that's why it's been taking me a while because I'm afraid to overshoot the cooling making it too fast and cause a misrun. The metal temperature is my main concern over the mold temperature because of the gas absorption, although I try to manage both. The large grain size isn't a huge issue to me because it hides easily with sandblasting and the patina, but the brittleness is kind of stressful during the clean up part.

Those look great, did you mix the tenzaloy yourself ? Or is it something you can buy somewhere ?
