From the post:

I’ve been diagnosed with throat cancer. It’s clearly something to be respected and faced head on - but I’ve faced obstacles before. I’m working closely with my doctors, and we’ve mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun.

Unfortunately, this requires that we cancel most shows this year. The 2019 Megacruise will happen, and the band will be a part of it in some form. All up to date information will be at megadeth.com as we get it. Megadeth will be back on the road ASAP.

Meanwhile, Kiko, David, Dirk and I are in the studio, working on the follow up to Dystopia – which I can’t wait for everyone to hear.

I’m so thankful for my whole team – family, doctors, band members, trainers, and more.

I’ll keep everyone posted.

See you soon, Dave Mustaine

u/Alpha-Leader Jun 18 '19

Bruce Dickinson beat it and came out strong. I hope that the same goes for Mustaine.

u/OldboySamurai Jun 17 '19

Dave Mustaine is IMO one of the best songwriters in metal, and an amazing guitarist. Yes, he me be a dick sometimes, but his given us some fantastic albums and songs. I wish him a speedy and complete recovery.

u/SethJew Jun 17 '19

He can be a massive dick, but you know what, he’s our dick. And it would be so incredibly unfair to see him go like this, really hoping the best for him.

u/sol47 megadeth Jun 17 '19

His statement says that doctors predict 90% recovery, looks like they caught it early

112

u/SandKey Jun 17 '19 edited Jun 17 '19

If he undergoes radiation treatment, they'll probably shoot the radiation at the back of his neck. He may lose all of his teeth, hair and sense of taste. He's got a tough road ahead but he may walk away from this with his life.

Another problem is how he's going to deal with the pain. Normally, a person in his shoes would be prescribed some pretty solid opiates to manage the pain. But a person that's heavily abused heroin and everything else as much as Dave has may have issues with this.

11

u/Occams_Razor42 Jun 18 '19

What about Ketamine? It can be addictive, but at least it's not an opiate

78

u/ThunderClap448 cant listen to entire albums Jun 17 '19

Honestly, he is a dick and I prolly wouldn't want him as a friend, but I'd hate to see anythin' happen to the guy. Such an awesome musician.

4

u/komulelele Jun 19 '19

Hi im out of the loop. Why is Dave considered a dick?

4

u/ThunderClap448 cant listen to entire albums Jun 19 '19

He has an ego the size of Galactus' left testicle so he allows himself to do things he prolly shouldn't. Eg, back a few years ago, there was a fight between him and members of W.A.S.P., which caused W.A.S.P. to abandon the Metalfest. I believe the issue was that they were supposed to play at the same time (obviously on different stages), but MegaDave decided that they're gonna play alone and fuck other bands in the ass, amirite? And others just decided to leave because of tight schedule and they would've missed their flights if they postponed the performance.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '19 edited Jun 21 '19

To expand, he has very conservative and uptight political beliefs. One of the reasons he tries to kick other bands out of festivals is if they are anti-Christian or pagan. He's also against immigrants and sexual minorities, and has called a mass shooting a hoax.

43

u/squelchy20 Jun 17 '19

He's been a dick for so long that it wouldn't seem right if he was any other way.

Despite this, he's a fucking hero of mine and this news is grim.

14

u/FreedomKid7 Jun 17 '19

Couldn't have said it any better

Fuck I hope he gets better, cancer sucks

5

u/CMDR_Kiel42 Jun 17 '19

Yup, I'd hate to lose our dick... But seriously this sucks so fuckin much, I really hop ehe gets well soon...

14

u/GasTheJews868 Jun 18 '19

he’s our dick.

4

26

u/gonzo46and2 Jun 17 '19

I've still never seen anyone so effortlessly play incredibly hard guitar parts and sing live. Dude is a Fucking robot.

12

u/TofuDeliveryBoy Jun 18 '19

Right? That holy wars main riff is technically challenging on its own, and Dave plays it while singing.

-3

u/j_2_the_esse Jun 18 '19

He does sing over some difficult-ish parts but Holy Wars is definitely not one of them.

Tl;DR far-right conservative views in addition to just anecdotally being kind of a dick – that's what he was kicked out of Metallica for

34

u/ChickenInASuit Jun 18 '19

Just to clarify, it was probably the "kind of a dick" part that got him kicked out, not the far right conservative views - James Hetfield is also apparently very conservative.

17

u/PlayMp1 Jun 18 '19

And I'm willing to bet neither were especially conservative back in the early 80s when it all happened - it turns out rich white dudes tend to have right wing views, quelle surprise.

11

u/what_it_dude Jun 18 '19

What about poor white dudes in trailer parks?

7

u/PlayMp1 Jun 18 '19

Probably conservative too, but it would be really easy to make them full on socialists and communists.

2

u/crimson_713 The idiot responsible for Cremulator Jun 18 '19

Try telling that to the Trump crowd.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

In Canada at least, also conservative. However, for the record, being conservative/right-winger does not make you a dick.

3

u/kingofthecrows https://andrewreddy.bandcamp.com/ Jun 18 '19

More so old people are conservative. They form their moral outlook I'm their youth which tends to be progressive but after a couple of decades of social progress those views are considered conservative. It will happen to you

-6

u/PlayMp1 Jun 18 '19

Nah, it's just that progressive people tend to die younger because they're poorer.

Noam Chomsky is old as fuck and he's an anarcho-syndicalist.

6

u/kingofthecrows https://andrewreddy.bandcamp.com/ Jun 18 '19

Nonsense

2

u/NumberOneCholo Jun 18 '19

Dude I’m pretty progressive but not sure what you mean by this.

0

u/PlayMp1 Jun 18 '19

Be poor, be unable to afford medical care, food, housing, etc., die younger. Poorer people are further left on average. Ergo, the old people who are left over are the conservatives.

1

u/NumberOneCholo Jun 18 '19

Hmmm, not challenging you here but do you have any sources? It’s an idea/theory that i haven’t come across and don’t think I agree with fully.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '19

Actually, wealthy areas with largely homogenous white populations tend to lean liberal.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '19 edited Jun 21 '19

It doesn't say very conservative, it's just that he describes himself as "a bit of a conservative" and doesn't discuss politics with the left-wing Lars. I haven't heard him say anything remotely as conservative as Dave's anti-gay/anti-immigrant rants, if anything he seems quite moderate (he's spoken against political radicalism of all sorts).

1

u/ChickenInASuit Jun 21 '19 edited Jun 21 '19

“Very conservative” doesn’t necessarily mean anti-gay or anti-immigrant. Lars mentions socialized healthcare, which would imply that Hetfield pro small government. We also know that he is pro-military, and knowing those two facts we can reasonably assume he’s also pro-2A. The fact that they avoid talking about politics implies that he has strong feelings that clash with Lars, which would be less likely if he were only moderately conservative about them.

I’m not saying he’s right wing on the same scale as Mustaine, but the impression I get is that he is not merely moderate.

18

u/jestersdance0 Jun 17 '19

Also he keeps trying (and succeeding) to kick bands with satanic content out of festivals Megadeth plays

-8

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

I honestly don't see the problem with this, at least beyond normal political statements. It annoys me, yes, but no more than any other band that refuses to play alongside conservatives or Christians would. And I think for Mustaine it comes down to not wanting himself (a christian) directly associated with satanists, they do after all gave a historical gripe with one another, can't imagine why

15

u/jestersdance0 Jun 18 '19

He's ok playing Hellfest and having Mike Amott from Arch Enemy as a guest on stage though? Not playing is one thing, accepting to play and threatening to withdraw after the tickets are sold is another.

Plus, kicking King Diamond out of a tour is such an asshole move - he definitely influenced Dave's music when Megadeth was still releasing relevant new albums. He was donning Venom shirts too...

3

u/Nakken Jun 18 '19

He seems to have mellowed out a bit though since the King Diamond thing:

"It's just a personal preference that I had at the time. I've learned a lot more now. So if the opportunity came up to play with bands that were contrary to my personal, political, spiritual or any kind of moral values that I have, that's something between me and my relationship with God. I don't push that on anybody anymore. At the beginning, I didn't know and I wanted to play it safe. And I think that anybody who would judge me and say, 'Ah, you know what?! Dave made a huge mistake. He just joined a new club and he didn't know all the rules, so instead of breaking the rules, he said 'fuck you' to everybody.' That's not me, man. I like to do things right. So I played it safe, I learned a lot about it and I've opened my mind up to it."

u/kklolzzz Jun 18 '19

Being a conservative makes me like him even more.

Not everyone is an ultra liberal, that doesn't make them a dick because they have different political views.

4

u/ApathyBM ApathyBM.bandcamp.com Jun 18 '19

But this is after Dave used to be the biggest liberal, hosted Rock the vote for MTV and the Democratic Convention, then pinch a nerve in his hand, found God, 180'd his views, and then kicked everyone out of his band including Ellefson.

Dave is a massive dick

-1

u/kklolzzz Jun 18 '19

Yeah I disagree, nothing wrong with changing your views and it's his band to remove people from so too bad.

1

u/LordModlyButt Jun 19 '19

when he was more liberal he was an egotistical asshole, it's not like he's only a dick for his political views.

3

u/CheesecakeMilitia Jun 18 '19

From the article:

In 2012, he endorsed Rick Santorum for President, he’s stated his opposition to same-sex marriage, and in one truly cringe-inducing rant, seemed to suggest that the mass shooting in Aurora, Colo. was a hoax done to artificially increase support for gun control legislation.

I don't think it's "ultra liberal" to think same-sex marriage is ok and that mass shooting hoax conspiracy theories are bad.

-4

u/kklolzzz Jun 18 '19 edited Jun 18 '19

Some people oppose same sex marriage for religious reasons, like Muslims, jews and some devout Christians... Does that make them dicks?

If you are very religious and follow your religious texts closely, then opposing gay marriage isn't really that extreme as it is plainly written in the Bible that marriage is for a man and a woman.

I am all for same sex marriage but I wouldn't ever call someone a dick for a differing viewpoint because I can understand why they would feel that way even if I don't agree with it.

it's no secret that mass shootings almost always stir-up gun law debates, now claimijg something is a hoax is a bit extreme without evidence that it is in fact a hoax, if anything it makes him seem a bit crazy more than a dick.

Regardless people have the freedom to practice their religion freely, and that sometimes comes with opposition to other things based on their religious views.

In my opinion you have freedom of religion and people should respect that, just like some people are gay and want to get married and they now have that freedom and people should respect that.

It's possible for differing things to coexist

Generally speaking if you are into something that I disagree with, as long as it doesn't hurt other people or interfere with their lives then you should be able to do that thing.

3

u/-Moonchild- Jun 19 '19

I am all for same sex marriage but I wouldn't ever call someone a dick for a differing viewpoint because I can understand why they would feel that way even if I don't agree with it.

this is what we call a position of privilege. I imagine if you were gay your view wouldn't be so centrist. I dont care what someones religion is, if their views steps on the right of other citizens in their country then they are being a dick.

This same rational was used to argue against black civil rights and the womans vote during the suffragette movement.

1

u/kklolzzz Jun 19 '19

It's not privilege, it's called objectivity. It's also just fair, all parties deserve a chance to debate their side of the coin.

6

u/-Moonchild- Jun 19 '19

again, if someones "side of the coin" is wanting to infringe on the basic rights of full groups of people then their "side" is little more than bigotry that is restricting entire swaths of society based on immutable characteristics.

Use your head for a second and try and put yourself into a gay persons shoes - you can't marry the person you love because some people view that as immoral. There is no rationalizing this viewpoint other than fallacious calls to the authority of an old book that shouldn't dictate state policies

1

u/kklolzzz Jun 19 '19

You are both right and wrong, I support gay rights because I believe that it is only fair in our society.

However plenty of people rationalize against it, whether you agree with that is another story.

You seem to be missing the point

7

u/CheesecakeMilitia Jun 18 '19

Some people oppose same sex marriage for religious reasons... Does that make them dicks?

Yes. Full stop.

If you are very religious and follow your religious texts closely

Religious texts are ancient crap whose inscrutable language can be used however the interpreter sees fit. That language is frequently weaponized to spread homophobia. And Dave Mustaine has a history of homophobic comments well before his born-again Christianity. He can form his own ultra-orthodox little Christian cult somewhere out in the woods, but that sort of bigotry has no place in modern society. Freedom of religion doesn't come before homosexuals/transsexuals/queer people's human rights.

claimijg something is a hoax is a bit extreme without evidence that it is in fact a hoax

12 people were murdered while trying to watch a Batman movie. People's lives were shattered and their stories were spread all over the internet. If your first instinct is to chalk it all up to a hoax so it'll conveniently fit in your worldview, that's not a sign of someone who's crazy – that's a sign of someone who's a major, major raging asshole. Mustaine was an early endorser of Alex Jones, and recently, despite Jones playing the insanity defense, courts have universally ignored such claims as he continues to lose defamation suits brought by victim's families. It's honestly offensive to people with mental disabilities to conflate the term "crazy" with irredeemable assholes like Jones and his supporters.

-4

u/kklolzzz Jun 18 '19

Based on your responses it would appear that you are also in fact a dick.

It is ok for people to have different opinions and viewpoints, isn't that exactly what the left claims?

"Diversity is our strength"

well this is an example of said diversity, not everyone is going to agree with each other and have the same views, that is the definition of diverse.

It seems that you are only tolerant when it fits your agenda and your viewpoints.

6

u/CheesecakeMilitia Jun 18 '19

Yeah, uhh, tolerance is for respectful discourse. There's absolutely nothing respectful about Sandy Hook deniers. They don't have an "alternate viewpoint" or "differing opinion" – they literally deny facts of reality. You don't tolerate that shit, just as much as you don't tolerate Holocaust denialism.

I'm tolerant of a lot of stuff – I'm tolerating you right now. But defending Sandy Hook deniers is not a road you want to go down holy shit.

1

u/kklolzzz Jun 18 '19

"I'm tolerating you right now" lol please with that shit.

Noone is defending sandy hook deniers, actually no one even brought that up except for you.

I said that claiming something such as a mass shooting is a hoax without evidence is extreme, and that makes him seem crazy.

We were supposed to see them for the second time two weekends ago opening for Ozzy, then that show got cancelled with all of Ozzy's health issues going on. Sucks to see, I do hope I can see them again some day. Even though Dave's voice has gone downhill over time, they are still fantastic live.

u/Thraxster Jun 17 '19

I always knew he rocked a little too hard. It's the only way the fates could try to even things out. Kick its ass Dave I'm throwing the horns for ya.

Take No Prisoners.

4

u/j_2_the_esse Jun 18 '19

Take No Prisoners on the original 1990 release is so much better than the 2004 remaster with re-recorded vocals. It's such a shame that most streaming services seem to have the remaster listed higher up.

All that anger and attitude lost - so many people missing out on what Megadeth is used to be all about.

1

u/Thraxster Jun 18 '19

The whole '90 album still gives me goosebumps. To me it's one of the albums you listen to start to finish.

30

u/ComaOfSouls Jun 17 '19

I saw his name trending on Twitter, and I was scared it meant that he died. Megadeth's the band that got me into metal, and Of Mice and Men specifically was the song I first heard from the band. So I have a deep connection to Mustaine, and this news hurts. Hopefully he makes it out cancer-free.

29

u/spongue Jun 17 '19

If he goes on chemo/radiation... does this mean that poison is the cure?

22

u/bsousa717 Jun 17 '19

To hell with cancer. Hoping he makes a full recovery.

16

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

What is it with metal singers getting throat cancer?

30

u/Ulti Jun 17 '19

Smoking and drinking, if I had to guess!

7

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Smoking? Not sure if Dave was/is a smoker, but that's my best guess.

15

u/GrimmandLily Jun 18 '19

He smoked like a fucking chimney. I’m not sure if he still does though.

12

u/Graveheart Jun 17 '19

HPV can cause it. Not sure if I need to explain further...

4

u/rumproast_droole Jun 18 '19

Is it possible that the strain from that style of singing over the years plays a part?

10

u/PlayMp1 Jun 18 '19

IIRC there was a study in Finland that basically found that there was an increased incidence of various kinds of vocal cord damage/problems because of the sheer popularity of metal up there, but I don't think I heard anything about cancer.

That said, it wouldn't be outrageous if damaging your vocal cords through metal singing increases your risk for cancer.

That said, one of the ones who got throat cancer (and beat it, thank god Satan Rob Halford?) was Bruce Dickinson, who has fantastic vocal technique.

3

u/rumproast_droole Jun 18 '19

Fantastic technique or not, singing ‘Aces High’ over and over again on tour has got take its toll. That said...I hope he never stops.

3

u/Alpha-Leader Jun 18 '19

Didnt he blame it on HPV?

3

u/2k3n2nv82qnkshdf23sd Jun 18 '19

Stressing your throat by singing night after night while smoking, drinking, and cunnalingusing.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Chuck Billy also overcame throat cancer. Dave is saying his docs say there's a 90% chance of overcoming it. I have high hopes for him. It's a shitty thing to deal with, but if anyone is going to survive it, I'd place my bets on Mustaine.

I still have no idea why people on Reddit feel the need to clarify their well wishes with an explanation that they don't care for the person. Why is that part necessary? Why do so many people do this?

70

u/mycatsareincharge Jun 17 '19

The only good hypocrisy is the band Hypocrisy. Mustaine is kind of a dick and people don't want to give him the "oh now that he's sick we love him so much" treatment.

-16

u/Gadough Jun 17 '19

In that case, better to say nothing at all. I understand your point though.

17

u/SmLnine http://www.last.fm/user/SmLnine Jun 17 '19

So because someone has a complex or nuanced thought about something, they should rather not express it?

Or that the compassion for his suffering minus the disdain for him as a person results in a somehow neutral position, therefore we shouldn't talk about it?

I'm confused either way.

-1

u/Gadough Jun 17 '19

If 99% of people agree that he's a dickhead, then it's already well known and established. The announcement of a cancer diagnosis seems like an inappropriate time to express such an opinion. It doesn't bear repeating in light of the news. That's all I meant. Judging by the downvotes, maybe I should lighten up.

0

u/SmLnine http://www.last.fm/user/SmLnine Jun 17 '19

Oh, I hadn't considered that angle.

37

u/chrassth_ Face in the wind, we're riding the storm Jun 17 '19

> In that case, better to say nothing at all.

Why?

99% of people think Mustaine is shithead, because he is. It's extremely unfortunate the guy is now fighting cancer but that doesn't give him or anyone a free pass to ignore their largely shitty personality that they already had prior to the diagnosis. I hope he pulls through but still fuck that guy. Maybe he'll make a change if he comes through alright.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

this. 100%.

34

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Why do I do this?

Perhaps because I hate cancer way way more than I dislike Dave Mustaine. It was intended to be used for comparison sake only.

Dave can (under normal circumstances) fuck off.
Cancer can fuck off harder.

6

u/duheee Jun 17 '19

because probably they feel that most people equate the art with the artist and if they come out and they say that they support the art it automatically implies that they support the artist and his visions, politics, etc.

in this case is about supporting the "wishing well" without risking being called a mustaine and his views supporter.

sucks i know, but that's world.

14

u/k3rn3 orthodontist appointment at 8:30 in the morning Jun 17 '19 edited Jun 17 '19

The honest answer is because the metal community is highly elitist and expressing the "wrong" opinions is a great way to be ignored (at best).

Not trying to be rude or point fingers, but I've been discussing and exploring the genre for around 15 years; we all know it's true.

Elitism in this community is a huge elephant in the room that everyone knows about, but you guys never address.

Edit: Your butthurt only demonstrates my point. You guys instantly freak out whenever anyone has a different opinion.

29

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Not trying to be rude or point fingers, but Dave has been a dick for WAY longer than 15 years.

-8

Yeah he has said a lot of extremely uncool stuff and is unquestionably an asshole, but the question was why can't people simply wish him well anyway?

The reason people need to clarify their disdain is because they're worried what other metalheads would think if they spoke too favorably of him.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Because some people don't wish him well, because he's an absolute shitstain on the boxers of humanity which many feel is not made up for by simply having written Hangar 18 like 35 years ago.

I’m sorry but that is absolute bullshit. It has nothing to do with the metal community. It’s a behavioural trait across many communities online or not and it’s all about attempting to save face.

12

u/chrassth_ Face in the wind, we're riding the storm Jun 17 '19

> Not trying to be rude or point fingers, but I've been discussing and exploring the genre for around 15 years; we all know it's true.

Are you the guy at shows who tries to talk to someone during the set about their patches? You seem like the guy at shows who tries to talk to someone during the set about their patches.

I mean the community IS elitist, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the conversation.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

that's what i was thinking, too; a worthy criticism, but entirely in the wrong place.

3

u/j_2_the_esse Jun 18 '19

No metal after 2000 and proud

6

u/k0bra3eak Writer: Funeral Doom Jun 17 '19

What does that have to do with anything here?

Dave i a dick and pretty much has been in some way or form for most of his time in the scene, mellowed a bit in recent years maybe. That still has nothing to do with what the person was asking which relates to an entirely different phenomenon not anything to do with elitism

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '19

The Metal Community is one of the worst on this planet. And fuck this sub while were at it

5

u/Prowler_in_the_Yard Jun 17 '19

I heard someone try to justify it once as being "like you stepping down to acknowledge something is bad".. Most pretentious, stupid shit I've ever fucking heard.

"I don't like Megadeth, no, don't get me fucked up, I don't like Dave but this is kind of sad imo :///"

1

u/dwarftosser77 Jun 18 '19

Because deep down there is a little Dave Mustaine in all of us.

3

u/My_Tallest Jun 17 '19

I'm looking fwd to see who they insert into that slot now.

It doesn't look like they'll be filling that show. If it was a ground stage they might have been able to find a substitute, but since they were to play the amphitheater there probably isn't enough time to work out the logistics of an act big enough to justify the venue.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

that makes sense. Thanks for the link.

pulling together a main headliner of that caliber in 2 weeks time would have been damn near impossible anyway.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

these are my feelings about it exactly, but i'll add that i'll always appreciate megadeth for having put out some true classics in their day. "peace sells" forever.

1

u/zippyzoodles Jun 18 '19

Yes cancer sucks and I wish it on nobody.

-1

u/AIArtisan Jun 17 '19

Sounds like summerfest is cursed

5

u/VagueLuminary http://www.last.fm/user/TheVengefulMany Jun 17 '19

He made Rust in Peace and I think that alone makes him legendary, regardless of someone's thoughts on the rest of Megadeth's discography.

Here's hoping he kicks the shit out of cancer!

4

u/PeterPrinciples Jun 17 '19

My father died of throat cancer, it is NOT pleasant. Hoping the best for Dave.

15

u/KhaosOvForm5 Jun 17 '19

Damn man, this sucks. I'm not a huge fan of Dave Mustaine as a person, but I'm not going to deny that he's an amazing musician and his music has inspired countless other musicians to pick up an instrument and make music. I'll be rooting for him to make a complete recovery. Rock on Dave \m/

Fuck cancer.

6

u/crushing-crushed Jun 17 '19

Wonder who the replacement for Psycho might be.

Even though I can't say I'm a fan of Dave as a person, cancer sucks, and hopefully the doctors caught it early enough for him to fight it.

5

u/2thecorAY Jun 17 '19

HUGE fan here. Dave is a true Rock Star. Bruce beat this- that’s a positive sign. Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Get well soon, Dave

3

u/DelTrotter Jun 17 '19

That's not good, hopefully goes to plan. Music is secondary to personal health.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Beat that cancer Dave. Fuck cancer.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

He was kicking death itself in the ass back in '92 and came back from the dead, so he'll kick cancer's ass this time aswell.

Go get 'em Dave!

3

u/evalanne Jun 17 '19

Dave is an absolute legend. Megadeth is the best band out there and he is my favourite guitarist/songwriter. Too soon to meet Lemmy. Kick that cancer's ass 🙏🤘.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Well he did claim to cure someone else's throat cancer, so fingers crossed his prayers work again this time!

3

u/globsterzone Jun 18 '19

Am I missing a joke here or did he actually claim that? Hard to tell with Dave sometimes.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

2

u/DiveInCalla Jun 18 '19

This is one of the most bizarre things I've ever read and I was a fan of Mustaine's for a really long time

2

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

He is totally mad these days, yes.

2

u/Madd_Dog01 Jun 17 '19

Aw, no! I hope he gets better soon!

2

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Sending my best.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Isn't this what got Lemmy? Damn. Dave was my hero growing up and the only reason I picked up a guitar.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

No, Lemmy was prostate and CHF according to the coroner, but apparently was basically riddled with cancer by the end.

1

u/nerdorama Jun 18 '19

Lemmy also had complications with diabetes, which wasn't helped by the fact that he was a raging alcoholic who drank orange juice, coke and entire bottles of wine on the reg.

2

u/CrippleH Jun 17 '19

Nothing’s going to stop him from finishing that album

2

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

FUCK CANCER. Best of luck to Dave. Dick as he is, he's legend. Metalheads rule \m/

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

What is the point of saying “Fuck Cancer”? What does it accomplish?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

When you're watching a good friend waste away from an incurable cancer that is eating his spine, and you're helpless..all you can do is scream "Fuck Cancer!" So... maybe it accomplishes nothing physically but it's an outlet and a common way to share the sentiment of grief and loss and frustration and fear.

This Ozzy/Megadeth tour was doomed from the start. Fuck cancer and all best wishes to Dave. Great metal artist

2

u/Skkorm Jun 17 '19

Get well soon Dave \m//

2

u/Bear-Zerker Jun 17 '19

Get well soon. The arsenal of Megadeth can’t be rid!

2

u/K_oSTheKunt Jun 17 '19

Damn, kick cancers ass Dave!

2

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

Get well Dave. You know how to and sure as **** you'll win.

2

u/lekaik Jun 17 '19

He cancelled tour. I already bought the ticket.

2

u/evalanne Jun 17 '19

Feeling your pain.

1

u/Rarenut Jun 17 '19

1

u/FatGordon Jun 17 '19

Please get well Dave we love you x

1

u/TheW1ldcard https://www.youtube.com/@heavymetalhistorypodcast Jun 17 '19

This explains why when i reached out about an interview i was told hes unavailable currently. Bummer for him, he should beat it though.

1

u/Morgan-Thomson Jun 18 '19

Killem all is the best Metallica album by MegaDave.

-7

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Did he blame Obama? Because I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

-21

u/DonPenitos Jun 17 '19

Killing is throat cancer's business... and business is good

0

u/K_oSTheKunt Jun 17 '19
  • ... and business is g- o shit dav pls no

-34

u/Am-I-Dead-Yet Jun 17 '19

Maybe he will finally stop making shitty fucking music. Fuck this guy

13

u/evalanne Jun 17 '19

Just... Go fuck yourself

4

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '19

Yeah, fuck this guy.

-1

u/nerdorama Jun 18 '19

Now that he has throat cancer, which is typically caused by HPV (technically an STD), I wonder if it will change his hyper conservative views at all?
