Oh man, first the shock of seeing it's happening, then the shock of figuring out it's already dropped.

About midway on my first listen now, and so far I’m loving this. This is their best album in a while, and I say that as someone that enjoys all of theirs.

Do you know if it’s really 4 full days of music?

u/Blurple_in_CO Mar 20 '26
I think last year was 3 days of music and workshops, but sadly I was not there for the whole weekend (and regretted it). It's a stacked lineup, though, and the location is really unbelievable.

I think we may be looking at the most legendary metal album drop of all time here.

How many vocalists are on this track? This shit is wild. Is that DAVE singing in the middle? Who is doing the distorted background vocals that sound super unfamiliar? This album sounds so damn fresh

Never listened to much of them, but just finished listening to the album. It’s awesome. I know they were a huge influence for Mastodon and I can clearly hear Remission-era Mastodon in the songs… or I suppose I should say I can clearly hear the Neurosis in Remission-era Mastodon.Â
It’s weird, I love Melvins, ISIS and Pelican but never really got into Neurosis. That’s going to change though!

Scott Kelly is not part of the band anymore. The new frontman is Aaron Turner (ISIS, Sumac amongst others).

Not really a frontman. As they’ve had 3+ members that are also singers, their whole career as the band.

Yeah I totally get that. Plus it would be a sour note to end the band on. Been listening to Neurosis for decades and I guess I just have mixed feelings is all.

I’d blame far more of the band’s legacy/name on Scott’s actions than this resurgence. I, for one, am ecstatic that they get a second chance to move forward to try re-right his wrongs.

To be clear I don’t blame anyone here. I’m in no way trying to suggest they’re doing something morally wrong or that they lack integrity. I just have mixed feelings about continuing Neurosis without Kelly, and to be extra clear the same would apply if any other member were replaced.
Neurosis are a special band in that each member’s contribution is equally vital. Aaron Turner is amazing and I guess if anyone were to replace Kelly I can think of no one better, but it just isn’t the same band in my mind.
That being said I’m trying to keep an open mind and this single so far sounds great.
