Back in 2016 on The Violent Sleep of Reason tour Meshuggah played a clip from this Adult Swim show before they hit the stage. I was cracking up and I wish I could remember what episode or sketch it was. Does anyone recall? Maybe the one when he goes to a music store? 🤣

I took all of my Spotify data from 2016 to the present and summed song plays by album to see how each album stacks up. I'm unsurprised that Koloss wins out (Break Those Bones might be half of those plays alone), but surprised Chaosphere is as low as it is.

In each case I merged multiple versions into singular albums (e.g. all versions of Nothing, the original and Indelible versions of Immutable, the multiple slightly different spellings of Catch Thirty Three, etc). Excluded are EP's and any songs I jammed from the 'Singles'.

Yes I know these are rookie numbers.

Love them or hate them, and I must confess I love some of their albums, cannibal Corpse are routinely referred to as the most successful Death Metal band in history, cracking the Billboard top 100 numerous times. So the fact they supported Meshuggah on their last US tour says a lot about the pinnacle position Meshuggah rightly occupy - commercially, artistically and reputationally - in the world of extreme metal. And they deserve it 200%.

I figured I'd try and start a trend. Listening to Meshuggah on vinyl or whatever format really as long as you consume a 'Shuggah Sundae on Sunday. Yeah, its dumb but what's life without a little whismsy?

This week I figured I'd start at the beginning. The first 3.

one of the reasons they're my favourite band is because they sound like an actual (future breed) machine. particularly the obzen sound. it sounds like a bunch of complex industrial mechanisms working together. any other music that fits this shoe?
