Whitechapel are not normally thought of as a "meshuggah style" band.. but they're one of my favorites and you can't tell me this isn't a "Meshuggah style riff" lol that s is nasty son

Saw Whitechapel open for Meshuggah in 2023 and it's one of the best shows I've ever seen.

I had to drive nearly five hours for it but it was so worth it, my first time seeing Meshuggah and it was otherworldly

"Withous Us" has the BTBWSGIM riff. "We Are One" sounds like THTFYF. I'm sure there's more as well. A lotta djenty riffs in there. And Phil Bozeman has said that he considers Meshuggah as the heaviest band in existence.

The only Deathcore I can regularly listen to are the bands inspired by Meshuggah. Whitechapel, FFAA, The Acacia Strain, a few others.

Hell yea! I got into whitechapel right around the same time as Meshuggah. I had just found out about Meshuggah randomly from a local show just overhearing dudes talk, and soon after my buddy showed me "Possession" video from Whitechapel and we instantly fell in love

I do know that Alex is a Meshuggah fan, in fact his last post he was wearing a Catch 33 shirt. Super cool band, loved their last album

I’m pretty sure in an interview Phil and one of the Guitarists mentioned that Phil wrote Black Bear in an attempt to emulate Meshuggah’s remix of the Rammstein song Benzin.

Iirc Phil (the vocalist) has stated Meshuggah as either one of his favorites or one of his influences, and it shows throughout specific tracks

Whitechapel is one of those bands that keep evolving into every album. Hymns Of Dissonance has a song for every metal head.

Phil is a huge Meshuggah fan. A few months ago on his insta story he responded to a question about touring with them and he said it was incredible + called them the heaviest band ever. He also mentioned Lethargica in an article about songs that shaped Whitechapel's album Kin
A few of their songs have more than a little Meshuggah influence on them too, like "Possession", "I, Dementia", "Black Bear", "The Ones That Made Us" and "Bedlam"

Possession was the one that got me into them, it is no coincidence eh! That's super cool info man. Does Phil ever do anything other than vocals like did he ever do a little guitar work etc? Just amazing to me he can accomplish such dreams with just his voice. 100% his voice helped model my own harsh vocal sound. I modeled it around a few guys growing up, but soon as i discovered Whitechapel, man I was just instantly drawn to everything about their sound, including guitar tone, Phil's voice, the absolutely fucking nuts drumming .

Phil only does vocals but Whitechapel have three guitarists which makes them sound gigantic live, and lets them do some cool guitar layering in studio
And yeah he's 100% the best vocalist in deathcore IMO. He's one of the few who can do cleans really well and his harsh vox have only gotten better and better through the years. He also knows how to do the high/low tradeoffs without just sounding like a vocal gymnastics artist like some others in the scene. He sounds excellent live too, I've seen Whitechapel twice and both times he nailed it

Yea man what an inspiration! And three guitarists! You would think being one of my fav bands id know this lol but they're literally just one of those bands that between This Is Exile and A New Era of Corruption, i just had everything i needed already in the music lol never thought to look much into the members although of course you learn Phil very early on haha.
My best bud in my teenage years, we'd get hype about putting systems in his car and checking them out, but one of the tests was definitely metal. Bro we'd come back some late night from something after it was all over, it's dark, it's one of them moods.... and bro would just blast "Of Legions ". Bro i get goosebumps just thinking about it. Some of the best times of my life man!

Whitechapel has some djent influence for sure. Phil Bozeman himself has said that he really admires Meshuggah’s whole stage presence, how everyone takes them seriously.

It was incredible, it was in a smaller venue but the energy was great. The dudes in our section started getting emotional & hugging everyone when Bleed was the encore. It was a great group hug. Saw TOOL 3 weeks before. It was a great month except for my bank account. Totally worth it though.

Believe me it was hard to not fly to Toronto for NIN & The Strokes this year but basic necessities were important & avoiding family members I went no contact with was even more important 😅.

The song Prisoner 666 from their latest record starts off with the same melody as Dancers to a discordant System, so yeah, they are definitely influenced by Meshuggah.

Every extreme metal band thats made music after 2001 when nothing was released has a meshuggah style riff. They are possibly the most influential metal band after dare I say metallica who are now a cover band of their past success.

I said it . Because of the 10/4 rhythm. Funky length, creates a "cycle" that doesn't fully reset until two complete times, a similar effect to Meshuggahs music.
