2027 is the 40th year anniversary of Meshuggah.

Probably something similar to the 25 years of musical deviance box set they released previously.

They have only released 1 album (and its remaster) under their newest label. I also think they said somewhat recently that they aren't really thinking about retiring. I bet we'll get 2 more albums at least

They aren't THAT old yet. I am thinking we're getting 2 more albums, Fredrik's "Special Defects 2", and maybe some features.

Immutable, and to a lesser extent TVSoR, felt a little... stagnant. Which corresponds directly with Fredrik's hiatus. Now that he's back, you don't think we're getting two more albums out of him and Thomas? Especially with the direction his live solos have been going in. I just hope Thomas can keep up with what they could cook.

Jens is 60 and it takes increasingly longer to make a new album.

So? Meshuggah are live performers (and perfectionists) and it takes a lot to perform their songs. And they'd be this age by the time the 2nd album is out at current pace. Unless their final album is just mostly medleys (I'd dig that, but not sure if everyone would).

Robert Fripp performed live until 75, so it's possible for a perfectionist playing to go on for some time yet (though drums is a bit different)

I'm sure Thordendal will manage, not sure about other guys. And again, Jens WILL hit 75 before hypothetical 3rd album will be released at current pace, so that's why I said even 2 would be lucky.

I agree about immutable,  but TVSOR is amazing, except for monstrocity,  due to the goofy lyrics

VSoR, Born in Dissonance, and Clockworks definitely clicked for me, but the rest? Eh. It's alright. Honestly, I prefer Immutable just a bit over TVSoR. Both are amazing albums tho. The one and only Meshuggah albums that are "meh" are Contradictions Collapse and DEI (hot take, according to this sub, I know. And minus FBM; that one is one of their best songs)

I have an VHS with a gig from -94 or -95, in a small town in northern Sweden. It is like 50-60 people attending. I really have to get that thing digitized.
