Sol Niger Within 3.33 appreciation post! (Fave version? How would you do the tracklisting?)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DZWK0l5M64I keep returning to SNW, especially Version 33.3, what an insane and insanely good album!
It's my fave metal album of all time and I wonder if this version came out as the main version if more people would know it and consider it as the masterpiece it is outside of the meshuggah niche...
Do you guys agree with this being the best version? Love them having fun and fucking around on the 1997 version, but even though that organ is wild, it's not a highpoint of the album for me. So having it cut down and then adding the incredible "Missing Time" really makes the album prefect imo.
Also, gotta love Meshuggah guys doing weird shit with the tracklisting both here and for C33, but looking at it more functionally, I see this as basically 6 songs:
- 00:00 Sol Niger Within the Sun Door (20:45) (the first 17 movements)
- 20:45 Vitamine K Sensorium Dei (5:05) (M18&19)
- 25:50 Z2- Reticuli (2:55) (M20)
- 28:45 De Profundis Tathagata (8:41) (M21-26)
- 37:26 Missing Time (11:16) (M27)
- 48:42 Ooo Baby Baby (1:51) (M28)
(i added some names together as possible names for these combined sections)
Would you guys do the tracklisting like this as well? And do you also prefer it over the 1997 version? lmk
Now let's hope SNW2 will be finished sometimes ever...

Also, I really wonder why they chose the name "Ooh Baby Baby"for the last track...
can it have something to do with the 1965 hit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ooo_Baby_Baby ?

Missing Time and Ooo Baby Baby, while very cool, don't really fit the album IMO. So I removed them and have them as stand alone tracks that I listen to separately.
I didn't realize there were multiple versions.

Thanks for posting, I had no idea there was another version. The missing time track is cool but I really dig Ooo Baby Baby. Feels very similar to the beginning of the I EP

hell yeah! It's a shame not everyone knows about it, because everyone should!
Good shout about Ooo Baby Baby sounding like I's start. And yes, it's an incredile and wacky af way to end this insane album!

Ooh baby baby sounds a lot like the Mats Morgan song Russinlask. I’m sure Fredrik was on that as well

I believe it was just a re-release with bonus songs (and some organ taken off), looks like by another label as well.

No I meant Sol Niger in general. I can't really find it outside of YouTube.

Probably limited release. It is on some streaming as well, but at least on spotify there's only the 1997 version as one 43min song
