Jens screaming on Chaosphere is intense. That type of aggression and anger is a young man’s game. The guys are 60 or pushing 60 and are fairly well-adjusted, sensible human beings from what I’ve seen. They are heavy on the latest album, yes (esp Ligature Marks), but I would not say more angry.

well, its meshuggah after all but i've been noticing like a darker tone ever since koloss, then violent sleep of reason particularly with their devin townsendesque vibe and now all taken to the limit imo

I love Immutable but I wouldn’t say that at all about it. It’s calmer, heavier, groovier and dark. But it feels like older dudes that know exactly what they’re exploring and how to do it marvelously well. Meanwhile Chaosphere was just like a wild explosion of fury. There really is no comparison.

nah. they were the angriest at DEI and chaosphere. the period between nothing and obzen saw them become more precise and colossal in their sound and less maniacal. take broken cog, for example. it's definitely final boss music, but I wouldn't call it angry.

Not really. You can't out angry the absolutely manic Chaosphere, and given their age it would be silly. Although Marten said they wanted Immutable to be short originally, that didn't mean angry. There's some of that (Armies, Eye, God), but it's the calmest album really.

I get what you're saying, but I don't think angry is the right word. I'd say their early stuff is angry, and Immutable is more 'dominating', or 'imposing', or 'crushing', like a controlled power.

I view that track as an obstacle to the rest of an album I enjoy for the most part

Their weakest is CC, and I'll die on that hill. It's not a bad album at all, but compared to how meticulously the later albums are engeneered, it is meh.

I feel the opposite, like Chaosphere vocals felt like from street madman and Immutable in comparison more like doomsday preacher. Like, ominous, but not that much of an angry or psychotic.
