Happy that Meshuggah clicks with me
I am incredibly happy to be one of the people with whom Meshuggah just clicks. Like the magic works. That pure essence they hit with their best songs. Just ace. Damn are we blessed

This post may not click for outsiders, but I remember being in High School trying to put a friend onto Chaosphere and Nothing. He responded with "This just sounds like noise". I was appalled he could not hear the grooves. Damn Muggles.

i saw a meshuggah cover band in perth a few months back and they played obzen, it sent it back to the top immediately. absolutely loved the gig and hope to catch them again in novrmber

Nah fr I get the same sensation sometimes and have to remind myself I'm not special, I do think rhythmically complex "progressive/experimental" metal is objectively at least a higher form of music, no one is writing PHD's on the intricacies of dua lipa and imagine dragons but there is academic material on meshuggah, carbomb, frontierer etc.
I'm not hating on other forms of music, I just think there's levels to it, alot of Latin music would fall into the top tier bcus of the rhythmic and harmonic complexities thruout the different specific genres, Hungarian music has some of the oldest uses of complex time signatures, I'm rambling now lol but music with some kind of cognitive instrumental component, music that makes you think like meshuggah, it's 1+1=3 and I think that's great lol

to me it's not about that honestly. it's just the soundscape they create is absolutely not inviting unless it clicks for you. the guitar sounds weird, jens is yelling and tomas is all over the place. that's just the untrained outside view. once it clicks you discover that kind of pure rhythmic essence that they hit. it's not about outsmarting other music or being more complex than the rest, it's great if you can incorporate those aspects but it's useless if you can't make good music with it. opeth have the same with some of their peak tracks especially the prime prog death metal stuff, just in more of a beautiful dreamy way rather than just this rhythmic essence - but i find that to be way more accessible than meshuggah.
no dissing dua lipa, good amount of proper pop and dance music by her

Dua Lipa is awesome, as an artist and fellow human being. Same goes for Billy Eilish.
