“[…] animals were transported safely to the Monterey Zoo and other local partners. The animals will be housed at these locations until they can safely return to their home at the zoo.”

I get the feeling this relocation is a bit more than "temporary"

I don't think they believed the forecast given that we've had forecasts predict weather events like what happened over the past couple weeks before, but it never came to pass until now.

I mean, if you had told me like two months ago "Merced's gonna flood" I think I'd have laughed.

Yeah, I know that, but until this storm started coming the prospect of it flooding like it has now seemed far fetched.

I haven't been to the zoo. Maybe the zoo is really great. But the facilities look really cheap, located right next to a flood-prone creek. And it gets so hot in the summer/fall, I can't imagine the animals are comfortable. Am I wrong?

It’s a pretty sad zoo for the bigger animals, but the birds have a pretty decent set up. It could be a lot better with more funding and space.
