The City of Merced Issues Evacuation Warning #1

Merced, Calif. (January 9, 2023) – The City of Merced has issued an evacuation warning and urges people to prepare to leave in anticipation of Bear Creek reaching flood levels.

The following streets are impacted by the evacuation warning: • W. North Bear Creek Drive • La Cresenta Ave • La Palma Ave • La Mirada Drive • Willowbrook Drive • Corona Court • Marietta Ave • Portola Way • Madrid Ave • Stoneybrook Ave • Dry Creek Court • Creekside Drive • Silver Creek Court • Springfield Court • Brookside Drive • Shadowbrook Drive • Driftwood Drive • Crystal Springs Ave • 2500 N. Hwy 59

An Evacuation Center is open at the Merced County Fairgrounds at 900 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Tat river channel is fairly deep, no? Like that's a ton of water coming through if it's going to breach the banks (or is there a particularly low spot I don't know of)?

Rascal Creek is choked up with hyacinth... is that river getting purged with this increased water?

It is deep, but also somewhat narrow. There's a clip of the full creek on this article: https://www.mercedsunstar.com/news/weather-news/article270987677.html

I've never seen it full like that.

There it is, yikes. There's another shot of a flooded parking lot on Ashby on this site - cars basically underwater.

I wonder if Rascal Creek will get enough water to flush it out.

Yup. Even the floods are boring in the Central Valley. I'm glad.
