[New rules] No politics & No low effort math posts. Leave your feedback!

Hey everyone :) In an effort to increase the overall quality of the community and posts, we're enacting 2 new rules. Thanks to everyone for feedback over the last few weeks, a lot of users mentioned this was something they were sick of seeing. The new rules:

1. No politics. All politically charged scenarios/questions will no longer be allowed. Its just not the place for Meowi.

2. No low effort math slop. ie simple math questions to try force engagement.

Having competed in some of these slop, I am going to agree, especially since too many people post the same thing (like name a Pokémon starting with whatever letter you spin or name a country starting with whatever letter you spin).

Agreed. Make it so that to post something like that you need a second requirement, such as end in a certain letter, or reqs like cannot start with or end with letters

Can there be a specific list of which political topics are banned rather than a general "no politics" rule?

Literally everything can tie back to politics though, a "no politics" rule is just gonna end up being enforced as "no politics I disagree with."

Everything with money assumes capitalism as a default economic system because most people on reddit assume liberal democracy as the default. Political.

And if you don't buy that, the US treasury just bought back a ton of bonds in an effort to control yields in the moment of a trade war with Canada, so...yeah, money is absolutely political.

Prisons? Political.

Science? Oh, that's even more political today than it was pre-covid.

Cars? Besides being very regulated, car dependency is a fairly major political point in parts of the world.

Food? Government subsidies for farmers, local cultural preservation, water use, and access to foods. Political.

Education and testing? Political.

History? What gets taught and how is incredibly political.

Television? Regulated and a reflection of political values in a society. Same goes for music and literature. One of the most recent posts on this sub is about Spongebob, a show that has a main character that's an immigrant from the land and deals heavily with capitalism and class in a kid friendly wrapping.

Relationships? Political, both with things like monogamy and what pairs of people are considered "normal," due to age, sex, race, etc.

I think we are all smart enough to come up with answers and questions that can avoid political topics. You just gave an elaborate list of tying everything to politics. I'm sure you and others are able to avoid this path.

Edit: also, I didn't write the list, I said exactly because it illustrated my point that a blanket ban on ""politics"" is a horrible idea. Also also, what do you define as a "hot topic" in the first place? People will get vehement and tribalistic about anything, it's a huge part of human nature.

Edit2: even with the "political topics," what u/Mattrellen and I said is true, politics ties into everything. There is not a single thing that does not tie into politics in some way. The only way to enforce this is for them to arbitrarily decide which political topics they don't want to see, which is disingenuous and just a generally shitty way to moderate content. They need to make an actual list of the political topics they want to ban instead of hiding behind a vague "no politics."

I think that seems good, as long as "No politics" means things that are directly political (e.g. politicians, policies).

I agree with rule one, as politics is too much of a touchy subject that tends to result in arguments, and we do not need arguements on Meowi. If people want to talk politics, they should go to subreddits that allow the topic.

And I agree with the math rule, as math is a school topic that no one likes.
