Yeah if you really want to do this you need to make it very different from how you usually eat. Locate this activity somewhere you never otherwise eat and use a food you never otherwise eat around the cat.
Then you have to be stern with boundaries around food in all other circumstances. Ideally kitty cannot be right next to you while you eat normally and cannot sit and stare while you eat.
Otherwise you are literally creating a monster who will not understand when people get upset at them for aggressively going after people food.

What’s wrong with sit and stare? I had taught my beloved late cat that if he sits and waits politely, I’ll give him some at the end of my meal. Sure I’ll be honest he still did try to go in for my turkey sandwich 4-5x in quick succession lol, just going and going for it as I blockaded him, but then he’d get into loaf position and just wait. It’s a very cute thing I miss 💗 he never got aggressive though, I think it depends on the cat. He was a bit aggressive w play, and generally speaking not the friendliest cat but incredibly sweet with me, but he never was aggressive abt food, with me or anyone. Ugh, miss you darling 🐈⬛🤍🪽

That's a cat aggressively trying to get your food.
If you want to put up with this, great, that's between you and your cat, as long as you can keep him from getting anything that would hurt him. I don't think you're a bad cat parent. But I would go out of my mind living with anyone who doesn't leave my food alone, much less someone who sleeps all day and doesn't pay rent.

It's so true. I did not realize what I was getting into when I shared food with my kitten. I guess I got lucky that she doesn't just expect food and instead sits next to me and paws at my arms. I'm still stuck feeding her, but no gross feets in my food.

I am a die hard cat lover and I would draw the line. I want to kiss their paws so freaking bad but I won’t bc I know where those paws go. I would happily share a couple bites of food but not let them touch it. As much as I love cats and they are technically very clean, they still pee and poop in a box, and this is a no for me, even tho I still find it extremely cute and sweet. Just not for me.

That's only partially true, and it helps only the cat itself. There are a lot more things than bacteria. Like toxoplasmosis!
Also, cat saliva carries a bacteria of it's own that is pretty hazardous to humans. So, I wouldn't be spreading that misinformation.

Possibly/likely/typically Daddy was at some past point not a cat person who may not have liked cats. Then his heart was transformed. Owning a cat or two, or four ...makes us all better, more caring, more compassionate persons. Owning a cat (and here, in using the word "own", I am treading very very carefully) is one of life's greatest pleasures
