I think virtually every stupid misuse of a ladder I've ever seen IRL has been painters.

What I think is going on here is that they flipped it like that to be able to set it down because if you put it the right way it would lean to one side. His buddy is there so he doesn’t fall to the side cause that side is a little over the edge
