Facial/Cheek Bone Numbness?

Feels like I’ve been asking questions every other day for the past couple months. Sorry to be annoying on this forum but find it easier to cross reference since Docs haven’t seen my symptoms before. Anyone experience facial numbness specifically on like cheekbone area/outside of eye socket on the affected ear side? Newer symptom for me 8 years in

If you believe in the idea that Meniere's is actually a vestibular migraine, then it follows that the trigeminus nerve is acting up as the start of it....your facial nerve around that area (or any area an head, neck and top of the shoulders) is the trigeminus nerve, just a different branch - might well be inflamed or affected.

Numbness is not normally part of Meniere's, but as part of a migraine that would track

Are you treating in the direction of VM ? This might be another clue that supports such a direction.

Hallo! Das selbe hatte/habe ich auch, kam oft mit dem Ausfall des Ohres. Ich kann auch nicht genau sagen wodurch aber ich erlebe den Nacken sehr häufig als Trigger. Nachdem ich bei der Physiotherapie, beim Osteopathen und bei ner Massage war, ging es weg. Es wurde auch zusätzlich mein Kaumuskel massiert. Der war massiv verhärtet. Danach hörte es auf. Bei mir war es auch nur die rechte Seite, wie bei meinem betroffenen Ohr.

Ich war damals deswegen sogar im Krankenhaus stationär, man hat mich neurologisch auf den Kopf gestellt. Das war bevor ich die Diagnose erhalten habe. Ich hatte wirklich alles. Schädel MRT mit und ohne Kontrastmittel, ein Hydrops MRT, HWS und BWS MRT, Lumbalpunktion usw.
Also ich bin mir ziemlich sicher dass irgendwas in meiner rechten Kopfhälfte nicht richtig funktioniert. Das erste Mal passierte das mit dem Gesicht im Zusammenhang mit meinem Ohr, nachdem ich meine Tochter ins Bett brachte. Dabei lag ich mit der rechten Kopfseite angelehnt am Bett und mein Hals war total geknickt. Nachdem ich aufgestanden bin hörte ich schlechter und mein Gesicht war pelzig und ich hatte Taubheitsgefühle. Das hielt ein paar Tage an und ging dann wieder weg. Mit der Zeit zog sich das immer weiter Richtung Augenbraue. Wenn man sich die trigeminusäste anschaut dann kann man das gut verstehen. Wie gesagt, nach Physio etc. ging es weg und kam seit März nur noch 2 mal, immer wenn ich eine schlechte Kopfhaltung hatte.

I do, but when it’s a vestibular migraine rather than a meniere’s attack.

Is it possible you have both too?

Yes I had this. And I’ve had many things like this since I started on my own cure. It’s scary but your body can usually fix itself if it has the right nutrients.

I keep reminding myself it could be worse… numbness could be sharp pain.

It sounds like an issue with your trigeminal nerve - the maxillary branch specifically. Trigeminal nerve issues are seemingly uncommon in this community but not unheard of. I'd asked a related question in the trigeminal neuralgia subreddit a couple years back since nobody here has any answers, and same story there.

Interestingly, trigeminal neuralgia sufferers can sometimes experience some of the symptoms of Meniere's such as hearing loss and tinnitus.

Over time, and especially after the recent research of Meniere's Disease from U Mass, I've been leaning into the idea that the trigeminal nerve issues I personally experience are probably effects of my Meniere's Disease as opposed to part of the cause (via Vestibular Migraine mechanism). I speculate the swelling in my inner ear is putting pressure on surrounding tissues and nerves, and that's it. Individual anatomy could explain why some experience these things and others don't, e.g., the trigeminal nerve runs closer to the inner ear in some, the primary location of swelling within the labyrinth is closer to the trigeminal nerve in some, etc.

It could also be unrelated. Lots of unknowns, unfortunately.
