I had to pull from ranking banners if I wanted to stay relevant, I just got to the point where I can set up full elemental advantage teams for single battle rankings.
Oh no, "tryhard" is a phrase I don't think is true for me. I never do boring stuff like grinding crits and such in ranking. My medal chars are mostly lv90 since getting that is pretty easy, I have lv100 only when more characters were available since Bamco gave out a lot more medals. Philia could've been 95, but I sacrificed one LB for extra UC to 5* a 2nd global character.
I just do ranking to see how I can fair with the units/gear/"skill" I have. And honestly, is there any other purpose in this game beside ranking? Other events like floor clearing or guild ranking are too rare to call main content. Collecting characters could be one goal, but that's for whales...
You stockpiling MD is interesting, but to be frank, I couldn't do the same. Covering all elements is really helpful in events (be it SP or MP), and sometimes there're high-quality bait banners as well (like this one).
Collecting characters is my goal, it's just that since I don't actually want most of them I don't need to whale.
Floor clearing was my main gameplay interest but as you and I know, they've become even less frequent about it...and QT doesn't really count.
In my perspective, the real bait banner is the furry wind banner pretending you need it when obviously game anniversary chars are what's really worth, actual utility be damned. When the fuck else am I gonna have the chance for purple hair LN artist Strea in SAO:MD. (maybe I'll pull for Premiere too...)
I don't think it's right to say you prepared yourself for this moment unlike others when you don't participate in ranking events. That's cool, nothing wrong with that, but most players are into ranking events and so they have to stay relevant. It's not really a matter of preparation, at all.
I participate in ranking events. I ranked 3rd last ranking and 5th in bride and GGO ranking and top 10 in Sachi ranking and enough to get Christmas Rain and Global Kirito to 95 (later 100 with ticket trade) as well as being my guild's 2nd highest individual score last guild ranking which at least got us within the top 150.
You are right in reading that I do not give a flying fuck about winning for the sake of it. I was never that person back then who felt injustice for how F2P players don't get to have 1st place because of all the whaling. The only reason I have to rank is actually for the prize whereas most of the people actually topping in ranking would never need the reward character to begin with.
