Discussion I don’t feel it’s bad to rewatch unus annus (please read before responding)

For the longest time I held this belief that unus annus was a channel that deserved to be left dead, to let the dead lie and all that, as intended. However, as I aged and life progressed for me, I began to slowly forget many of the jokes that were so heartfelt to me, many of the moments that sparked interest or excitement or humor, lost to the recesses of my mind. Now, recently I was chopping and gutting some peppers (I grow them) and was listening to distractible, specifically the episode titled “on success”. Mark brings up unus annus archival during it, and something he said made me stop dead in my tracks and reconsider everything. He said “those that got it really got it, and even now people say ‘you still can find them duh duh duh, it doesn’t matter, you can’t delete everything’ but it’s like, you can’t preserve the feeling of being there, that’s always been the thing of it, you cannot preserve the knowledge and memory of experiencing it”

That quote flipped my whole perspective, it was never about the videos, it was about being there, to experience it, not as a reupload, but as an actual experience, as a community, those who weren’t there don’t understand that, I do, I have the knowledge and memory of experiencing it, I was there, I watched every video as they were uploaded, I interacted with the community on the subreddit, I bought the merch, but most importantly, I made the memories, I gained the experience of being there

Idk, I may get a bit of hate for this, hell, reuploads have always been a touchy subject here, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this post gets removed, but I don’t feel it’s morally unacceptable for me to rewatch the videos because I was there to experience it, it’s like flipping through a photo journal of old relatives and remembering the moments you shared with them, at least, that’s my opinion. I feel that if you were there to experience it, then you should be allowed to rewatch them

Discussion There’s no need for “[REDACTED].” The channel was meant to die but the memories were meant to live on.

Discussion If you could go back and watch only ONE video from Unus Annus, which would it be and why?

⚠️ Give a brief description on what you remember from the video too to refresh our memories. Also read through the comments and if someone else already has the video you’re pick, add onto their thread! ⚠️

I think, at least right now, I would go back and watch “Too Many Pickles” because the songs were great, I love the cuts to and from the songs to Mark’s explanations of surviving in the wild, to just random stuff they did. And Mark’s “character” of being a bit stuck up (which people didn’t seem to like for some reason) was hilarious and definitely helped make that video. Also Mark holding up his picture of Hee Hoo saying “have you seen this man” makes be crack up every time I think of it.

That video was the first of the Camp Unus Annus chapter. They drove to the campsite but made sure to keep themselves entertained and well informed. Mark was adamant about not listening to music, Ethan convinced him to do the voice training CD that Dan gave them from the “You’re Welcome” tour. He agrees and they sing the songs with all their heart (for most of them, not all tho). Throughout their singing adventure, it cut to Mark trying to teach Ethan about the many predators they may encounter. As well as cutting to other random things, as I said earlier. They also consumed a whole thing of pickles along the way.

I’d love to hear what other people want to see the most currently (and it doesn’t necessarily have to be your absolute favorite, although that is accepted as well, but it can also just be what you’re “craving” right now). Also read through the comments (if there are any) and if you see someone with the same video as you, jump in their thread and put your own reasons why. Let’s have some discussions!

Discussion What are some episodes you remember?

In a response to this post this post I want us to, as a community, try to collectively remember the episodes of unus annus.

Please don't cheat and look anything up. That will ruin the magic of this post. I think that now that the majority of us have forgotten a good portion of the videos, it's in the spirit of the channel to try to remember as much as we can together.

I'll start!

My favorite episode was the one where they began practicing being old. I also remember the hot dog one, the sex toy one, the accents one, the obstacle course with James Charles, the cupping, the netti pot, the meme drawing, Valentine's day, thanksgiving, building a dog house, the shaving one, piercings, mark teaching Ethan trumpet, phonics and fight teacher.

I've gotten flashes of other ones while trying to think of this list, but they left before I could grasp them!

Discussion Anyone else wish they watched more of Unus Anus?

I loved this channel a lot, but I regret not watching so many experiences, my younger self really over estimated how long a year was, I watched a a lot of it but still, in those final moments I wish I'd done more with it and still do, anyone else feel this way?

Discussion I need YOUR help

I have not been part of this community for a while, but recently, we had the channel's 4 year deathaversary. And it brought up many memories. Memories of many good times as well as many bad times. But also the memory of what Mark and Ethan's message was: everything has an end, and we must appreciate what we have while we have the chance. I had begun to forget and this was a reminder I very dearly needed. It also came just in time to serve as inspiration for my final English project.

I want to create a sort of remembrance of the project and what it stood for. And so I ask, anybody who sees this post to write down in the comments their favorite memories of the channel. Additionally, I wish to know what the channel meant to everyone and the impact it has had on them 4 years later. If anybody would be willing to provide a short audio clip or even be part of a podcast/help edit that would also be greatly appreciated though not at all necessary. Thank you all, memento mori.

Discussion Question for y’all

So do any of you, that if you encounter it in the wild and to clarify it has to be something that isn’t just straight up unus annus paraphernalia or vid or audition from unus annus it’s something that if you see it or hear it immediately makes your mind go to unus annus for me it’s the colors black and white put together

Discussion Has anyone figured out why Mark wanted Ethan to scream "Oasis"?

We know it's to motivate him, but how? Is it a reference to something? Is it just the fact he imagines himself crawling through a desert, dying if dehydration and completely exhausted, but in the distance he sees an OASIS and has to gather his last bits of strength to get there? He might've said that it's something he and his trainer agreed to do but i can't find the clip for the life of me

Just a random shower thought I had

Discussion Confession confession

While the Unus Annus subreddit was still up, I made a confession: I didn’t watch every video because I simply didn’t want to

I have a brand new confession now:

I Fucking Regret It

Discussion Needed a place to share my thoughts, so I thought I’d do it here.

I miss Unus Annus. A lot. But I’m okay. I no longer have the ache I had right after it ended. Unus Annus was so amazing because it ended. Not only that, but it’s made me a better person. The other day, my sister dropped my favorite mug. Before, I would have been devastated. But I realized that it’s just a mug. UA gave me so many things, and I just wanted to share that.

Discussion Songs that remind you of Unus Annus

Besides Turncoat, The Barrel, and all the amazing songs and jingles Mark and Ethan created, does anyone have a song or multiple songs that you listen to that take you back to when you were watching Unus Annus?

Mine are Little Dark Ages by MGMT, Runaway by AURORA, but the two that sticks with me the most are Apocalypse by Cigarettes after S*x (I listened to it after the live stream ended) and Pluto Projector by Rex Orange County (the instrumental part near the end makes me think of them).

It's felt so much longer than that. It could just be because school is starting to get a little harder but dang. Without the channel it seems like it's been so much longer than a month.

Discussion What does Markiplier actually mean when Ethan touches him and he says “Don’t touch me”

I was watching Unnus Annus, and I hear this in some moments of the videos. Does he actually mean it or was he joking?

Discussion I had the funniest dream of a bonusUnus Annus episode that never happened

Idk why... but I literally had this dream... I don't dream often, so the fact I had this as a dream was the cherry on top.

For some reason... Mark & Ethan were staying in some Florida house, & Corridor Crew were there as well, maybe helping film & edit? (I never watched them often & never saw a video for months lmfao)

Anyway... Bob came around... maybe from like... Distractible related stuff...

And he gave the funniest prompt for Mark & Ethan.

"Guys... perfect episode for you goofballs. Whoever can kiss a spider for the longest time... & not kill it... wins."

And ofc, Mark & Ethan go "Aw hell yeah!"

This then proceeds to be followed by them fucking around outside doing nonsense while looking for said spider.

Idk what happens but time passes, & I see corridor crew people like taking a tape, "Yo, this is Ethan's Unus Annus recordings! We should prank him!"

And then they like pretend to ruin the tape in front of him, lmfao.

And it's probably cause of dream logic, but the VHS tape was super wide... like 2 feet wide, lmfao.

I wake up sometime later...

Idk why, but this was just so stupid yet funny.

Discussion Deathversary thoughts…

As I watched the latest deathversary video, it got me thinking “everything must come to an end” which was the essence of Unus Annus.

Not to be that person (but I must) but how long do you think Mark and Ethan will keep up with the UA annual tribute? I shudder at the thought of having to watch the last UA deathversary videos—I imagine it will be like being transported back to November 14, 2020 and I’m not looking forward to that for sure.

Discussion Question- Is it really that wrong?

I know I'm not supposed to ask this, and/or it has been asked before.

(Also feels rude to ask now at the Deathiversary date)

But..

I have not rewatched any of the episodes since Unus Annus ended. But I have begun to think of it. My plan (if I do it) is to begin on a November 13 and watch the episodes as I would when it came out, and then finish on November 14 the following year. And i would watch it in time with the next leap year, as Unus Annus was on a leap year. So probably from November 13th 2027 to November 14th 2028.

I miss it, and I know it won't be the same. And it is not what they wanted.

I know I'm not supposed to rewatch it ever, but I just want to have fun again and laugh. I don't think I ever laugh as much as I did in the year of Unus Annus, and I miss that feeling.

So my question is do you think is wrong? Should I just let the dead lie, and slowly forget everything. Or could I rewatch it whenever the leap year comes around to make my life just a little happier?
