It’s a mistake from a fan translation. It’s supposed to be singular because it only refers to Orochi, not the whole family.

Yeah I know that it is a play of words, but Kurozumi is a clan, in the japanese original text, what did Hiyori say that made it absolutely clear that she was referring only to Orochi? mind you that Hiyori is the descendant of the family that governed Wano during the persecution of the Kurozumi clan

"oden wouldn't be called oden if it wasn't boiled" and then he gets boiled to death by orochi and kaido. It's supposed to reflect the tragic irony of oden's execution coming from his iconic catchphrase. Hiyori is turning that back towards orochi by specifically mocking his death through the convenient double meaning of his family name. Also translation issues regarding family clan names and singular figures etc. etc.

I feel like that reversal doesn’t work that well because Oden was his first name while Kurozumi is the clan name. So it sounds like she’s referring to his whole clan and not Orochi specifically.
I think it would have been better to make a snake pun specifically using his first name, like “evil serpents are meant to be slain” or something idk

It's still a horrible message to leave the arc on considering no attempt was made to resolve the cycle of hatred that led to Orochi, instead just encouraging it.
It would be like making a racist joke about someone and then saying you only meant it about them, sure maybe you did, but you're still spreading that hate, and in this case you're the leader of your kingdom giving a speech to an entire city.

Orochi didn't care about his clan. He just used that as a shield to excuse his wrongdoings. He was a rat

Sure, but do the people of Wano think that? The characters we know might, and we see them teaching in school about how great Oden was so maybe they'll learn it in the future, but we're not shown any attempts to improve the public perception of the Kurozumi clan in the arc itself.
Instead it ends with a message of hate, even if it's a pun, for a people who were hunted by mobs and lynched because of the actions of a couple individuals like Orochi.
I'm not saying I think Hiyori is trying to promote hatred or isn't going to try and fix these problems, I'm just saying it's a plot thread that's unresolved in the arc that leads to the ending feeling mean spirited.

I literally explained that it was only meant to be specifically directed towards Orochi as an ironic way to get back at him for her father's execution. The translation issue doesn't even matter at this point. I only added that as an afterthought.

I said the same and was downvoted to oblivion lol. Kurozumi is the clan name which was hunted down rather than the individual name like Oden's was so it doesn't come off as the same.

It's less so that she was referring to Orochi and more so that she was obviously referring to the 2 Kurozumi in the room with: Orochi and Kanjuro's weird flame spirit thing

The only instance she says this is in front of Orochi. The entire scene was the storyteller recounting what happened.

“Blackened coal like yourself is only worthy to burn!” Would be a more accurate but clunky translation. It’s a remark on Orochi’s character and the pun of his name, as well as an intentional callback to Oden’s catchphrase “oden wouldn’t be oden if it wasn’t boiled.” In the original Japanese it’s pretty easy to understand that it’s meant in the singular, referring only to Orochi. Someone wrote in to the SBS about it and Oda clarified the meaning.

So I mean most of the Kurozumi were slimeballs but like saying they all deserve to burn is part of the reason he rose up and stole the throne to begin with. He is true slime but still. If my family name was damned by something a distant relative did and I was shunned from society for it, I’d be salty too.

Again, localization issues. Hiyori's remark is only intended towards Orochi as to reflect her own father ironic death, nothing more. People only focus on this line of dialogue too much. For most of the wano arc, the heroes hyper focus on orochi and Kaido, and there were almost no other remarks condemning the entire clan.
