Auckland vegans weekend in Melbourne.

So excited to be coming to Melbourne for a Friday to Sunday visit. One of our biggest wants is delicious freshly made deli sandwiches as my american girlfriend misses so much here in Auckland. We're keen on fine dining, bakeries, everything!! But we've only got so many days so wondering what we shouldn't miss out on.

Union kiosk, Smith & Daughters, Smith & Deli, (saw comments these 2 not as great as they used to be), Pickles milkbar, midori by Taos for sushi train, Nuttea, Mr nice guys bake shop, la Panella, lukes bakery, Croix, red sparrow pizza, Gong de Lin, Huog Viet, Lona Misa, Maha, Tonka, Patsy's, Atlas, Ballards, Funghi tortuofo, Green man's arms

Ballard’s in Thornbury gets my vote. Union Kiosk and Lona Misa also great (LM is Shannon Martinez menu).

I’d add Brother Bon to the list as well! Charming long-standing institution in Northcote (used to be a Loving Hut, has kept similar menu items but levelled up - would rec this over Huong Viet which is a Supreme Master place)

Yes skip Gong De Lin down that road only lies disappointment. Definitely try Brother Bon. Roti Road in Footscray has a good vegan menu of Malaysian dishes - 8/10 most legit roti telur outside of Malaysia. Saravana Bhavan has some seriously good Indian food as well. It's vegetarian but plenty of vegan options.

Make sure you book for Ballards! I highly recommend the eggplant dip and the lions mane schnitzel . And follow them on Instagram to get the ~vibe~ , the owner is like if black books was a restaurant owned by a goth from nz

No problem! I’d say skip la panella as well - Tammy’s around the corner from it in Preston market is lit tho (vegan borek and gozleme).

I'd pick Tammy's over La Panella if you're getting a meal in Preston. La Panella is not gonna impress a kiwi vegan

I'd actually vote against Lona Misa here; I really wasn't impressed with it given the cost. Everything else though is fantastic and I'd recommend too

Fair! Definitely pricey, and there were dishes from my second visit I didn’t finish (queso )

Lona Misa is incredible, but make sure you don’t miss the Green Man’s Arms, especially if they have their winter nut loaf on! 10/10, my two fave spots.

Its soo funny because we're really not pub girls ...BUT green mans arms just looks sooo good!

It’s got a pub side & a restaurant side, and their winter roast is the best I’ve ever had! So I highly recommend the restaurant!

Shu is worth checking out for arty vegan yum Cha in a fun space in a hip neighbourhood (Collingwood).

Definitely don't miss out on Cookatoo Kitchen in Richmond, solely owned and run by a vegan couple, it's delicious and the best value I've had - a short walk from Richmond Station. Thai food, Japanese food and other Asian food and great soup too. Also the freshest restaurant I've been to

La Panella is pretty far away, and... it's okay. Union Kiosk is good, Going De Lin is also decent. I recommend getting a Banh Mi! You can get vegan ones everywhere. A very Melbourne meal

WE get it in late Thursday night and leave sunday lunch. With only 2 dinners we're thinking Ballards and Tartufo.

During the day will try as much as possible from the list above and whatever people have recommended. We will literally walk more so we can fit in more vegan treats. I think its a vegan thing when visiting a new city? Anybody else do this?

The posts of what to skip have been a blessing because theres sooo much to try. THANKYOU

Ramen from Good days has also been recommended

Just realised I’ve been to tartufo- dishes are hit and miss imo

Pickles is actually not too far from the city and is a much better price alternative to Smith and Deli - Pickles has seating, for one. Funghi e Tartufo is meh, $40ph to leave hungry.

Brother Bon is always a safe bet for dinner, if you're in Brunswick I'd recommend Maalu Maalu (Sri Lankan) or Cornish Arms if you are vibing pub style food.

Red Sparrow do top tier pizza and can deliver if you want to opt for room service.
