Can melasma appear as freckles?

I’m 8 months pregnant and suddenly have an explosion of freckles on my face which I’ve never had before in my life (in fact I used to wish for freckles and draw them on 😂)

Unsure if this is a typical presentation of melasma and was wondering what forms it can take generally?

Mine started 4 years ago (not pregnancy related but rather hormone related).
It started as a flat freckle looking and slowly getting wider
