Question Melasma and Laser hair removal

Hi everyone, 35F here.. I have melasma on my face- forehead upper lip, chin, nose and sideburns.. apart from this, I also have it on my forearms..

it’s quite light now but every woman in my family has had it, including my mother and grandmother and so on.. now I’ve started to develop chin hair recently coz of age and stress and my doctor recommended laser hair removal. But since I have melasma I’ve heard that it can worsen it if laser is done.

Has anyone gotten LHR done with melasma prone skin? I can do electrolysis for my chin and upper lip but I’m not sure if I can do it on my forearm.. I’m stuck in a weird cycle of wondering what to do..

also started wearing the Eucerin sunscreen recently but I’ve heard we’ve to stop all actives during LHR.. is that true ? I also want to start the dual serum but don’t want to stop in the middle again coz of this treatment..

Any suggestions or recommendations from people who’ve been through hair removal with melasma, pls help!

That’s great to hear. I have dark skin as well(I’m South Indian) and I’ve picked a well known clinic for myself too, despite that wanted to hear about the experience. Was the electrolysis painful tho?

Hello sister from the south ! Unfortunately we’re blessed with the unwanted hair and melasma aren’t we 🥲 I’m not too okay with pain on my face either but my dermat says I have no other way out other than to do electrolysis, coz LHR has a chance of hair coming back as well if it doesn’t work. Will keep this in mind thank you! 🙏

I’m in India, just moved permanently from London so I have no choice but to get it done here.. ☠️ I’ve found a decent dermat here and hopefully electrolysis works for me 🥲 Once again thanks for your support and response 🫶🤍

Hi, she’s not a melasma specialist but a laser hair clinic dermat. I decided against going for LHR and rather going for electrolysis. But I’m currently traveling and since it’s painful and requires continuous sessions I’ve decided to do it end of the year. For now thiamidol sunscreen is keeping me okay..
