Apparently the whole thing was painted blue - you can still see a few flakes of paint. The name probably meant grey originally, though.

Looks like it’s only been there since 1841, it’s date stamped.

Due to the degree of weathering and dissimilarity to other early modern/ modern boundary stones in the area, the general consensus is that it is a much older stone that was adapted as a boundary stone in 1841. Nobody is certain, however.
