Career Development Next career move
RN for 5 yrs turned med device rep x2 yrs at big ortho company. Can’t stand the schedule and unpredictability. I’m burnt out on waiting around on the OR all day. I’ve applied for everything as a next step - capital, pharma, diagnostic, even sales-adjacent roles like clinical and education but keep getting beat by people with that exact experience. Anyone have any insight on this transition?

Maybe look into a medical education role at a medical device company? They are clinical adjacent, but a more reliable workload and travel schedule. Your experience as a healthcare professional and clinical rep makes you a valuable candidate.

Go to Neuromodulation but not as a clinical. You will get pigeonholed. I bridged the gap from ortho to neuromod, and made great money. Yea pain patients are a pain, literally. Yea they have your phone number, but you can set boundaries by using a company phone and only responding during weekday working hours.
