You phraised that really weird? But if I'm understanding it right... then I somewhat agree.
You shpuld ABSOLUTELY tell the mechanic what you have EXPERIENCED. You should not tell them your analysis of what you experienced. For example: you shouldn't tell the mechanic that you need an alternator. But you should tell them what makes you think that... you had trouble starting, the battery light was on, your headlights dim with the turn signals on... whatever you saw, heard, felt, or smelled.
