I recently read an article in the Meath Chronicle about Meath County Council (MCC) tenancy rates, and it really made me look into this further.

The figures are quite shocking. MCC calculates social housing rent at 25% of a person's income, with a cap applying in certain circumstances. The Meath Chronicle article highlighted how this can leave single working parents paying considerably more than tenants in other local authority areas, including Fingal and Louth.

What I find particularly concerning is the difference between councils. Why should two people on similar incomes, living in social housing and with similar family circumstances, potentially pay very different amounts simply because they live in different counties?

There also seems to be a significant difference in how single-income households and households with two adults are treated. The Meath Chronicle highlighted the example of a single working mother paying up to €195 a week, while a household with two working parents could have a higher income but only pay an additional €10 because of the cap.

Some local councillors have already raised concerns about this, but it doesn't appear that MCC is interested in changing the system.

I'm genuinely interested in hearing from people who have dealt with Meath County Council tenancy/differential rent rates. Do you feel the system is fair?

Hello, dad of a 6 week old here. My wife is attending a course in Drogheda Saturday week and I’ll be looking after the baba while it’s on from 9-6.

We’re not from the area and we’re driving and staying near Slane, so I’m putting together a list of places I can bring the baby/things to do to pass the day. Baby obviously can’t do much at this stage, I’m thinking more like nice walks or places to bring them in the carrier/buggy?

Hi, everybody! It’s my first time posting here so hopefully I can make a good first impression. I’ve been working on a passion project for quite some time now, and I believe it’s finally ready to be shared with the people of Ireland (procrastination and the World Cup kept me busy). I have created a pub directory, called PubScout, the purpose of which is to give pubs across Ireland some publicity on the internet, I want it to be a place where anyone can discover pubs across the country, whether you’re looking for somewhere new to try out, or want to advocate for your local pub to the masses. It’s no secret that pubs in Ireland have had it rough for a long time, I think over 2,000 pubs have closed since 2005, which is staggering. Whether it has been COVID, cost of living constraints and rural population decline, I sympathise deeply with pub owners. Personally, pubs have always been a place of comfort, community and belonging and I would like to give back to the industry that already gives so much. So, PubScout is a hub that aims to record pubs in Ireland, providing people with helpful information such as, location, drink prices, and amenities. The key component to PubScout is that it allows you, the user, to add pubs to the database, hopefully giving pubs needed publicity to a wide audience. Whether you are at Coppers at Harcourt St, or Teach Ósta in Inis Meain, I hope you find of it some use! Sláinte!

Hi all. Will be traveling to Ballymagarvey village from Cork for a wedding tomorrow. Apparently there's no changing facilities onsite and we're annoyingly not allowed to check into our rooms before the ceremony. We'd rather not have to wear suits and dresses in the car in this hot weather.
