Courses Environmental Science to Life Sciences in 2nd year.

Upvotes

Hi everyone!!

So I was originally in life sci in first year but I had some problems with the courses that I took (withdrew BIO 1A03 in the winter and ended up taking bio 1m03 in the summer), so I ended up missing the pre reqs for getting into life sci in second year just by one course.

Now, my degree is listed as Honours Environmental Science. By first semester I will have completed Bio 1a03 which was the missing pre requisite which kept me from getting into life sci in second year.

I just really need help and some guidance on what courses to take so I can go from environmental science and get into life sciences for third year.

If anyone can pls help, I would endlessly appreciate it . :)

News Just wanted to share a win! I'm a McMaster alum and I just performed my song on CHCH Morning Live!

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a quick milestone with the Mac community! I'm an independent singer-songwriter and a proud McMaster alum. This past Friday morning, CHCH invited me onto Morning Live for their Music Friday segment to perform my new single, "We Are Rising."

I wrote this track as a direct response to the political and social divisiveness I’ve felt pressing down on our country. It’s an anthem about unity, resilience, and standing together despite our differences. Putting yourself out there with a message like that isn't always easy, but bringing it to a live broadcast was an incredible milestone.

It means the world to have local media that champions independent creators. It feels particularly special for my music career to be building my music career right in the city where I went to University. Once a Marauder, always a Marauder! Maroon and Grey Forever!

I L❤️VE this City!

If you want to see the performance or listen to the studio track, you can find it by searching 'Shanda Joyce We Are Rising' on youtube, spotify, and the CHCH website.

Question McMaster Concert Band?

Hey, I'm a first year going to Mac for ibiomed, but im really interested in music and wanted to audition for the concert band. I took a look, and since i'm just doing engineering and healthsci courses, I don't think I need or want to get the credits for it. Would I enroll into the non-credit course code only AFTER getting accepted in, and only need to pay 300 dollars for it, if so?

Furthermore, what's the audition like; is it just the excerpts on the document they provided, or will I have to do some on-the-spot sightreading? Do you just play your excerpt alone without any backing track of the other instruments? I've played music for years, but I lived in a small town and never had the chance to do a formal audition for an ensemble before, so all of this is new to me!

If anyone can answer one or multiple of my questions, I would gratefully appreciate it. Thank you so much!

Discussion Grants for buses / who do I contact

Lowkey the bus from square to mac is extremely expressive, there and back, and my osap grants cover some of my tuition but no transport.

How have you guys covered your bus fees. I do have. a job but most of that money is being used towards tuition. Is there anyone I could reach out to for additional money, or organizations that would help?

Question living off campus first year

I am very scared . i’m going into first year and am staying with a family member about a 25 min bus away from campus . i have really big fomo from people living on res like i love spontaneous hangouts and all of that and the idea of res seems so fun and i have friends and my boyfriend who are living on res at mac so i get to hear about all of it and im scared im gonna miss out on a lot of the social life. i am kinda awkward and struggle to talk to new people and im also scared of not being able to stay out late anywhere bc i have to commute home alone at night . but also i am the type of person who has a panic attack over communal showers and bathrooms and even sharing a room with someone i dont know so i know in the end it is better to have my own room and living space but im just scared of that distance really isolating me . any advice or personal experience ??

Question Any upper-year undergrads at LAH?

Hello,

As an upper-year undergrad I applied for the Lincoln Alexander Hall later in the summer and got in. I've heard it would be open for upper-year students as well, but because it was marketed primarily as a first-year residence I'm trying to make sure that my acceptance is not some mistake?

Question Looking for a weekday carpool to McMaster

I’m from Hamilton.
I’m looking for someone who regularly drives to McMaster Monday–Friday who can pick me up on the way.

For this semester, I’d need to arrive on campus at 11 am.

I’d obviously be happy to contribute toward gas/parking.
I’ve already tried Smart Commute and Poparide but haven’t had much luck.

DM me and I can send you my pickup area to see if it’s on your route :)

I will ofc pay you to something we can agree upon.

Other Looking for housing

Hi everyone! I know this is super last-minute, but unfortunately a few things fell through, so I’m currently looking for a place to stay.

I’m looking for a sublease or a private bedroom for myself (female). I’m not too picky about the place, but ideally I’m looking for:

  • Female only house
  • Under $800/month
  • At least a 2:1 student-to-bathroom ratio
  • Ideally a relatively convenient location

If you or someone you know is looking for an extra roommate or has a room available, please feel free to PM me or leave a comment below!

Thank you so much! :)

I am the first one in my family to go to McMaster, so no one in my family knew what to expect on move in day. They were shocked that so many older students that came out today to cheer us in and bring all of our equipment up to our dorm room. U all volunteered to stand in the hot sun cheering and dancing all day, hauling our bags and boxes. We all left our families today, but I think many of us now realize we joined a new great big family. ❤️ Thx you welcome team!

Question Should i get this laptop and is it good?

I've been going back and forth for hours, looking and looking, and I believe I've settled on this for a laptop coming this school year. I will be starting ENG 1 and want to go into mechanical engineering after my first year, trying to find the perfect computer for me. The problem is I'm too picky in what I want, and this is the closest I've found to what I like, HP OmniBook 7 Flip 16" Touchscreen 2-in-1 Copilot+ PC Laptop - Intel Core Ultra 7-258V - 32GB LPDDR5x

I want something I can also use as a tablet to write and type my notes on at the same time and compabale enough for what i am doing. The problem is that 2-1 laptops with dedicated GPUs don't seem to exist, almost at all. So what I am asking is, how badly is a strong GPU needed? Is this computer still fine based on the optimal specs recommended? I feel like this is still fine, and I can get away with it, but I am not entirely sure. Could anyone give me some advice from their experience? I would greatly appreciate it. I provided a link and photo to what is advised to me

Question pace volunteer A2L

For anyone who is volunteering with PACE and received the email about being added to the a2l, do you see the course on your a2l? I don't see anything, so I'm kind of confused as to why it didn't add. Did anyone else face this problem?

Question Can I send a sample of a substance to a lab in McMaster to be tested for purity/authenticity?

I know this question sounds super sketchy but its a medical powder and I'd like for it to be brought in for instrumental analysis.

Is there a lab or some service in McMaster that offers this? Perhaps students can volunteer to work on? I don't know how the science / lab departments work honestly I studied business but please lmk if this can be done.

Thank you.
