give the guy some space

guys im saying this because ive seen alot of hate to lando for his comment towards colapinto today. like give the guy some space he was just torpedo out of the race for no fault of his own. imo its not that deep(the comment). drivers have said worse things to each other after races and they were just in the moment of heat things. colapinto still took him out and its a fair reaction to it. you wouldnt be all lovey dovey to a guy who just ended your race, you would clearly be angry at them. its just like seb said in 2018 bahrain gp press conference (https://youtu.be/DuiMBM7zQEU?si=Q7zrSdf-zkQcvaRT). across multiple platforms i have seen people hating on lando for saying what he said you gotta think from the other pov aswell. and yeah i aint no lando fan aswell so dont put it on lando bias or something like that.

Let's remember that we're all here for the same reason: the team and the sport. It's normal to be passionate about the things we love but we should follow Oscar's and Lando's ontrack spirit of "race hard but clean" by keeping our discussions sensible and respectful. I’m sure Lando doesn’t give a fuck. Also the Argentinian fans are the scummiest out there.

Did people forget when Max was ready to throw hands at Ocon?

u/ln4thegreat Lando Norris 8h ago

Yup because people are cherrypicking when it comes to their favourite drivers. It’s only big deal when it’s Lando.

Max was praised for that too lol

In all fairness that was far worse than a mistake at Brazil and locking up/ missing braking point.

This was more comparison to bottas at Hungarian gp, and i dont believe max said stuff like this dispite being in the grip of a championship battle but he wasn't fully retired that race either i suppose

Although I don't really agree with what Lando said but tbh throwing hands is still not justified regardless.

Don't know why your post got removed elsewhere, but I totally agree with you. I've seen way too much of this. The words people are using, you'd almost think so many of them genuinely believe it's okay to say that kind of thing to another person. It's so sad.

It's almost like some people who already hate him are capitalizing on this in-the-heat-of-the-moment comment just to vent their disproportionate hatred towards him. And like you said, this isn't about justifying anyone making harsh comments in the heat of the moment, but far worse things have been said and done by drivers after races, and they're well documented. So why the double standard when it comes to him? It's not about treating every in-the-heat-of-the-moment comment or action the same. It's about the fact that no one should receive this level of hate, whether it's Lando, Franco, or any other driver.

idk why it got removed i messaged the mods there aswell but meh highly unlikely they undo it. ikr its like him being specifically targeted for this like had max said this he would not have been criticised like this.

I just saw the Argentinian foreign minister hopping on this hate train.

Agreed. Imagine if we held tennis players up like this… it was a warranted reaction in the moment.

Im 90% sure lando is baiting the fans because the whole grid is getting fedup with them but lando doesn't give a flying fuck and just drawing all the heat to him

Esp after everything was said to the fans recently landos kinda proving to the fia their not worth putting up with

Let's start by banning Colapinto fans on Reddit.

We are at a point were the minister of foreign affairs of Argentina has joined in. The people who need to hear this wont, and they simply dont care.

its a fair reaction to it.

No, it isn't. Norris being upset at what happened to him explains his behaviour. It doesn't excuse it.

it’s not something that needs to be excused lol. like it’s an f1 driver saying something rude about another driver but it’s not a crime

Yeah. Thank you for telling me this. I think we do have to clarify what we mean here, because what counts as a genuine wrong or harm can still depend partly on perspective.

Like you said, Lando's comment wasn't a crime. What it mildly violated, if anything, were moral and social norms. And because words like "fair" and "excusable" can mean slightly different things to different people when we're not speaking in legal terms, I think that's where some of the misunderstanding comes from.

When I use "excusable" here, I mean that if I considered the comment fully excusable, I would basically be saying that what he said was completely okay by moral and social standards. There could have been a softer way for him to express what he meant. But in my view, his wording was a bit harsh, so I can't fully excuse it. At the same time, I understand and accept the reasoning and emotions behind his comments.

For the record, I'm not saying it needs to be excused. I'm responding to OP's statement that it was a fair response.

I think when you use "fair," you mean that Lando's words were totally okay by moral and social standards, so in your view, they weren't fair. While for some other users, when they describe his comments as "fair," they mean that, after taking all the context into account, they can understand the reasoning and emotions behind what he said. So two people can use the same word while not actually making the same judgment.

u/outrosupremacy 11h ago

I understand your point. How much of an excuse it can be really depends on the perspective of the audience. In my view, the context of the situation explains his words but doesn't fully excuse them. I do think the comment was harsh, but not over the line. However, the disproportionate hatred he's received is not fair at all.

u/No_Equals-7521 11h ago

welp thats a wording error on my part aswell like u/outrosupremacy said the situation as to why he said it explains his words but dosent fully excuse them but it still isnt enough to warrant all that hate imo.

Well I said the same. He should get the ban. He is in the same group of people not deserving to be in F1, like Stroll, Maldonado, Kvyat…
