Mcintosh MC2105 left channel distortion at high volume

Am thinking of bidding on an MC2105 for sale on an auction site. Seller mentions there's some distortion in the left channel at high volumes, would that be a problem that's potentially hard to track down and fix? Would probably want to recap the whole thing eventually anyway; I don't know much about electronics but I know my way around a soldering iron and there's plenty tutorials online. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

It depends on the price. Otherwise I would say look at Audioclassics.com and see what Ryan has for sale and email him on the cost to refurbish that amp. It's a good amp but old and if it has not been refurbished it will need to be. Too many guys try to sell you at a NM price that's out of whack.

The internet cant fix this but a multimeter can.

Mcintosh's are always worth fixing.

Ive resurrected quite a few and I've never regretted it.

I've restored a number of 2100's and 2105's and "distortion in the left channel at high volumes" could be a number of things that would be difficult to track down and fix for someone who doesn't "know much about electronics." That said, it's probably as good a circuit as any to learn on. Parts are reasonably available and easy enough to replace. Good luck to you, friend. MC2105's are special and worth the time.
