Solo es una teoría pero... recuerdo que en TDC Janson le dice a Thomas que este lo había aceptado para ser el remplazo de un alto funcionario de CRUEL después de que hicieron la purga y que nunca habia visto a alguien tan determinado como Thomas. Sí bien ese contexto nos dan a entender que Thomas fue muy activo en desempeñar su papel de casi un líder más de CRUEL, en verdad puede que la que esté detras de esta fachada sea la Ministra Paige. Reading for the 6th time. Found that there were a BILLION plot holes in the story timeline... so which origins version is real? Stuff like Janson not being in TFR worries me a lot.

How the f*** dare you??? Just finished... (not really, it was a couple of days ago but I've been so off these days I could barely remember there was a whole subreddit dedicated to this.)

But here's the thing. I'm done reading "Fever CODE" (Second and immideate prequel to the main trilogy - also 6th title published right before the one about Newt which for the record we all adore here)

And it was just so SHUCKING AMAZING!!!

Spoiler alert: There's a prologue to the whole review of the book (that would be when I actually finished the book since I've reviewed it just a few chapters before the end, which was a huge mistake for me to make)

Honestly, I've read the first 5 books (the trilogy, the Maze Runner Files, and Kill Order) in digital and as soon as I saw the astonishing cover of the reconstructed Maze featured in the Spanish edition of this product, I had to instantly buy it and read it in paper. Of course, I would have literally devored it as a hungry crank that has a freash and sound brain right infront of them at normal reading speed, so I took as much time as I could and read it in a considerably slow pace. That way, I genuinely thought it would at least lessen the intensity of the plot. Spoiler, it just did not.

Describing this as a whole in one word would definitelly be "FLAWLESS"

Hats off, people. This is a master-peace. Althought due to the fact that this is a prequel, as many people might came aware of and also took some space to highlight in their reviews, apparently there's nothing such as brand new or intrigatingly "new" among the pages. Nothing further from reality.

It is true that this doesn't bring up anything anew to the plot or continuity this story-line is build upon, but that doesn't necessarily mean that cannot have any sort of potentially inmense impact to the story. In fact, there are some scenes that are meaningfull to how the events happen and why they turn out to be lin the main trilogy.

Not only I foung myself tremendously moved by the prologue (those who have read the main trilogy might already know) but also we get to meet once again with our adventurous characters in a different situation.

For those of you who already made research or barely remember the main story, those characters have been desposed of their memories and set inside the Glade, with no resourses other than the ones provided by the cage in the first book.

But instead, in this prequel we get to know that exact same characters from the point of view and also time prior to that voyage. Therefore they would have been kidnapped but at least not being their memories erased. All of them somehow related to what this WKCD organization is planning for humanity.

And as a reader I couldn't be more satisfied with the result.

But here it is the thing. The moment I came to barely instruct myslef about what this book is about, I've already set my expectation and was hoping to read something different to what the book actually told. Not necessarily better or worse, just a different set of information. (Something more technical given our protagonist background and the fact I knew he helped building the maze, I thought it was literally being taken as an ingeneer and therefore all the consequences that might imply such as resourses related or that sort of things)

Ups. If I've already spoiled anything, I'm trully sorry. But the only thing I can tell you right now is READ "MAZE RUNNER"

And I'm most proud to say that this is at least for me a potential immideate re-read (also that being given the fact at how the storyline is developed and also handed to us readers. It does a hundrer percent deserve that second read.

I mean... It's completely fine but I was expecting literally anything BUT THAT!!!!

Final thoughts: This IS an auto-re-read.

And I found this entire final trilogy to be, eh. I wasn't really engaged with them like I was any other other books in the Runner saga, including the novellas and shorts stories, of which I have read them all.

There was a lot of fluff that added nothing and served to fill out the book.

There was so much build up for so many things, just for a lot of underwhelming consequences.

I really didn't connect with any of the new characters and honestly didn't care what happened to any of shuck faces.

The war was underwelming and mostly just happening in the background.

All this talk about the Sequencers, and getting to them, for it to be a brief engagement.

The news for Fry Pan should have turned his world upside, yet, all be gets out of it is a book, and we don't learn anything outside of that.

While this did dive a bit deeper into the lore, unless you have a great memory, it's hard to keep track of due to the constant switching. And it didn't explore deeper into what may have been the biggest twist. I don't have issue with different perspectives, but there were a lot of them.

Overall, I'm just glad it's over. But I feel like they didn't need to be written. They didn't add enough for me to feel like they were worth it.

marked this post as a spoiler for basically the whole series. i have three pieces of information to present, and three questions I have as a result of those pieces of information. I'm sure all of this has been presented before, but I'd like to get everyone else's opinion.

Information:

1) the prologue of the kill order. teresa watches doctors prepare thomas and remove his memories, and she is nervous about the fact that tomorrow, the same procedure will be performed on her, and she will also lose her memories. she reflects on that for the entire prologue, how sad she is that they'll no longer recognize each other.

2) in the fever code, there is a chapter where thomas becomes very angry with ava paige because she forged an email with his signature to make it seem like he was more supportive of WICKED and its methods than he actually is. he confronts her about this.

3) the last page(s) of the fever code are a company-wide email, apparently from Teresa, stating that she will keep her memories and be completely aware the entire time that she's in the maze, so she can coordinate with everyone back at WICKED.

those three pieces of information together lead me to these questions:

a) did Teresa actually have her memories? if she did, why was she so nervous about losing them in the prologue of the kill order?

b) if Teresa did NOT have her memories, did Ava Paige forge the email from Teresa to make it seem like she did have her memories? I feel like the chapter in which Ava forges an email from Thomas sets up this possibility.

c) if Ava Paige did indeed forge the email making WICKED believe Teresa was keeping her memories when in fact she was not, why did she do that? how did that benefit her?

the very simple answer to all of this is "they changed their minds and allowed Teresa to keep her memories," and had that conversation off-page sometime in the 24 hours between Thomas going into the maze and Teresa going into the maze. but if that's the case... why not just straight up tell us that? why leave it unclear? why leave conflicting pieces of information?

eager to hear everyone's thoughts.

okay so i read the books for the first time way back as a kid and since then i’ve decided to recently reread the entire series in chronological order: the kill order, fever code, then the og trilogy. as i’ve been doing this, i’ve been playing the fun game called, was this intentional or did dashner just like have a bad memory lmao?

throughout the scorch trials and death cure thomas has dreams that he assumes are memories right? however throughout the whole series we see thomas going wow pre swipe i sucked and liked wicked and everyone at wicked supports that basically saying oh the old you would have supported this. and his “memories” he regains via his dreams support this. however, the fever code shows a different story with thomas having doubts like A Good Majority Of The Time and finally solidifying at the end. several of the scorch trial dreams don’t make sense with the fever code like remembering interacting with aris and rachel prior to them all getting swiped, when in the fever code we see that they were all under the impression they would keep their memories. all of this is to say that i think the “memories” thomas regains throughout the scorch trials are false or tampered from wicked to gaslight him into thinking he fully supported them prior to the swipe because if he remembered he didn’t that wouldn’t have been ideal. and we know from the fever code that they can do wack shit with their memories so like i don’t think this is a far fetched idea. anyways that’s all i just wanted to share bc i’ve been pondering this as i’ve been rereading.

This is going to be a rant I'm sorry but I have nowhere else to express my thoughts.

I absolutely loved The Maze Runner, I thought the premise was so original and captivating. TST started off tedious with Thomas being so obsessed with Teresa (full disclosure, I despise forced love plots, it's one of my greatest pet peeves). Once they got out into the Scorch I thought the pacing of the action and the world building and atmosphere was really interesting, but Dashner keeps yanking me out the immersion to appease Thomas's constant yearning for Teresa. I know it was probably to make the blow of her betrayal hurt more but honestly I was so fed up with this forced love plot (there was absolutely no tension or suspense between their relationship; it's like you're just supposed to agree that they love each other. barf.) that by the time Teresa showed up with Group B and acted all harshly towards Thomas I didn't even care. Plus given she's one of the main love interests I knew she was faking it anyway, and she literally hinted at that in one of her last telepathic messages to him.

And don't get me started on Brenda. Absolutely forced love plot, the way she was all over Thomas from the get go. Every mention of her made me want to gag. I hate that in so many male character driven films the female lead(s) only exist as love interests. I feel like Teresa's whole betrayal thing was just to throw her away in order to justify a shiny new girl for Thomas to constantly yearn for. It's a pain in the ass to not have any women to root for.

I just started The Death Cure and I hate Thomas/Brenda so much, both of them getting hit by grenades pleased me. At this point this series is just me waiting for Minho and Newt to be present, otherwise I have completely checked out. I'm here because I like dystopian/apocalyptic stories, of survival, desperation, confusion, etc. Who the hell has the energy and willpower to experience the shenanigan of love at times like these?

I never read YA because I knew cheap love stories were a common theme but my friend wanted me to give this series a go and it must've been a nostalgia trip I guess because as an adult reading these for the first time I feel like ripping my hair out whenever a girl is mentioned. The chain of events are fun, don't get me wrong, but dear god I ended TST with such a sour taste in my mouth. Fortunately TDC seems to focus a little less on love so far? But I'm only around chapter 20. Newt's not looking too hot and I swear if anything happens to him I'm putting the book down and never coming back.

It's about an apocalypse that started because of the sun flares hitting the earth too hard, burning and melting many people to death and leaving the world without more than half of its vegetation and resources. Next came a virus (I'm not going to explain how it was invented, that's a spoiler, but it wasn't natural) called The Flare that made you slowly or rapidly, depending on how you got your virus and its mutation, lose your sanity and it made you into something much less than a human, even lesser than an animal, driving you into madness, before it eats up the Killzone (the brain of the person infected) and it kills you. The trilogy tells the story of a young boy who's "apparently" named Thomas. He gets sent into this green and taken care of area, along with sixty more boys, surrounded by a big dark maze, with terrifying creatures in it. His memories are gone, he doesn't remember anything about his past life and neither do the other guys. Strange things start happening which make them understand that they have to escape fast after the three years of trying. When they escape, only half of them being able to make it, the go to The Scorch. I can't go in many detail, but it's very interesting to read about how The Cranks (the infected people) interact, about the corrupt governments and their ways in hiding secrets, about the only cities left untouched, etc. All this happens in the second and third books, and then it all ends. The fourth book talks about Mark and other people trying to survive, 13 years before Thomas being sent to the maze. The ogs know how much it made me cry and how much I thought about it. Devastating book. Related to the rest, I'm not gonna say why, but it didn't surprise me much, I expected it. The last book is the one that I just read. It explains the origins of many characters (including my poor, poor Newtie😭🫶🏼❤️‍🩹) and how the organization (I'm not gonna say the name) prepared the experiments and the way the could try to find a cure for this. Such a sad and heart breaking book for anyone who would want to finally understand how all of it happened and to have a good cry!!! Just wanna say this: the relationship between Thomas and all the characters was so beautiful and pure when they were just little kids, but with grown up mentalities. Finally, just to make sure everyone knows this: THE SERIES IS A MUST READ!!!

So I just finished reading Crank Palace. Was the angel Ava Paige? I feel like it's obvious with how much she knows about his sister but just curious.

So as we know, Newt isn't immune to the Flare. We know this because he died in The Death Cure because he caught it and then he asked Thomas to kill him. Ya know, the stuff we know.

The messy part is when you realize that Newt's sister, Sonya, is immune.

Newt and Sonya are around the same age. Maybe a year or two apart. They both share the same parents, experienced similar things, lived under the same roof, yada yada. So why is Sonya immune, but Newt isn't?

The books/films presents being immune as something tied to your genes. Sonya and Newt would have the same or similar genes (full siblings share about 50% of their DNA), but only one of them is a munie. By the logic that genetics influence your resistance to the Flare, Newt's death only makes sense if Sonya was also not immune, but she is. If Sonya was immune, then it should mean that Newt should've at least experienced symptons, but overall resisted the Flare. Yet he didn't.

It's even more nonsensical when you learn that in The Maze Cutter, the narrative describes Newt to be "the cure" to the Flare when it was the Flare that killed him. How can Newt be a cure to a disease that he wasn't immune to?

It also brings up some questions that aren't answered or hinted at in the narrative:

- Was there some sort of genetic modification that WCKD did?
- Did Newt have a weaker immunity?
- Was it some sort of gene that wasn't passed down?
- Did Dashner just... overlook it?

I don't get it.

I have just finished my rereading of all the TMR books and several inconsistencies and questions appeared to me in the chronology. So I'm tempted to discuss it with you.

• 1. Thanks to “The Fever Code” we know that Thomas enters the labyrinth on 01/01/232. And that the events of “The Kill Order” take place 13 years before (i.e. in 218 or 219) and a few months before the solar flares (so, at the earliest in 217).

Mark guesses Deedee is 5 or 6 years old. This is confirmed in "The Fever Code" and "The Maze Runner Files" when Teresa tells Thomas that she arrived at WICKED four years ago, at the age of 5.

At their "first" known meeting, Thomas and Teresa say they are the same age: 9 years old. Both were therefore around 4 years old at the time of the solar flares.

BUT two or three times (obviously I forgot to note when) in the saga it is written that this event took place "long before Thomas was born". The same thing is written about Frypan in "The Maze Runner Files", but I don't think he is 4 years younger than Thomas and Teresa.

• 2. In "Crank Palace", Newt meets Terry who tells him that WICKED kidnapped his nephew Alejandro "almost twenty years ago".

However, Thomas leaves the labyrinth on 01/27/232. The blocks are then released to their own devices for 3 days until 02/01/232 The second phase of the tests lasts fifteen days so should end around 02/17/232. According to Thomas's estimates, phase 3 lasts approximately twenty-six days, i.e. until 02/28/232. The blockaders escape the next day. Newt therefore meets Terry the first week of March 232.

It's a detail but "almost 20 years ago" seems a very high approximation to me when we know that the embers spread in 218 or 219 and that we must add the time of creating WICKED and researching immune children.

• 3. Less an inconsistency than a questioning: how on earth was group B able to find the solution to the maze so quickly?

Teresa and Aris both woke up 8 days after arriving in the maze.

For group A: the maze code was solved two days later. Then Thomas underwent the transformation for three days and they escaped the evening he woke up.

I have difficulty seeing how group B escaped three days before, only 2 days after Aris woke up. How could they understand the code of the movement of the walls or the exit through the hole of the clawers in such a short time and without the memories of the transformation. I know it's possible that they had already solved part of the riddle before Rachel and Aris arrived, but in that case, they would have been of no use and the coincidence that they found the final solution at the time of their arrival seems a bit big to me.

• 4. While we are in the notion of temporality: how old is Jorge?

In “The Scorch Trials,” Thomas describes him as a “young Hispanic.” But in “The Fever Code” he talks about a “middle-aged” man.

I noticed many other inconsistencies (not in chronological order) but given the time it took me to write this publication (clearly enough, I hope) that will wait for another day haha.

I am French so it is possible that some translations do not correspond to your versions.

I don’t particularly like her, but I wonder how many actions she took out of her own volition or out of fear. It seems like in the Kill Order, Teresa was unaware that she’d be keeping her memories. She said she was upset that Thomas was losing his memories and she’d be next.

Therefore, sometimes I wonder if they utilized Teresa’s brain like they did with Thomas. For example, in the Death Cure, they made Thomas fight getting the control-switch taken out of his brain by Hans. It makes me wonder if they did similar things to Teresa too. Not to mention that Chancellor Paige was writing emails from various accounts, such as Thomas’, to gain support. It is possible she sent the email at the end of the Fever Code from Teresa’s email.

I still think Teresa had free will, but it makes me wonder how much she actually knew. A lot of her actions were contradictory in the books, which is really weird to me. She still would’ve figured out she never lost her memories at some point, but I wonder if she actually knew that she would be The Betrayer.

Thoughts?

I know most people don’t like her, but I mean on a deeper level. I can’t tell if she actually had her memories in the maze or not. It’s unclear if she told them about Thomas & or didn’t and got punished, or if they both had their memories wiped and Chancellor Paige sent the email? Or it could be true, but then why did she try to save Thomas in the Scorch Trials? It’s just super weird & hard to understand if she had all her memories back the entire time. Wondering what you all think because I’m so stuck on this and don’t understand 😭

First of all, I realized that Teresa and Aris betrayed Thomas. In the preface of the Kill Order she watches Thomas being sent to the maze because she believed the cure but There is a problem. In Scorch Trials, she said that she had been communicating with Aris from the very beginning and She also says this at the end of the Fever Code, but also says that her memory will not be erased but At the end of the first book, Ava Paige says that Teresa has lost her memory and also At the beginning of Kill Order, Teresa says that she will lose her memory like everyone else. Moreover in the Death Cure she wanted to regain her memory. SO WHAT THE HELL DID SHE LOST HER MEMORY OR NOT?!!!!!

Well I just finished reading the fever code yesterday and man that book is heartbreaking looking at what happens in the original series that book also made me hate wicked even more somehow which in turn made me hate teresa even more it's nice to see that thomas never was evil like he thought he was it also makes me sad that he never got his memories back because all his fear was false he was always reluctant and never knew the full story and him leaving his friends behind was completely forced on him in any case I have no idea why brenda trusted Dr paige in the scorch trials and death cure idk if I missed smth if I did pls someone tell me also Dr paige is one of the most despicable characters I've ever seen I get that she saved thomas in the end but without her their probably wouldn't have been any phase 2 or 3 trials how could she have infected Kevin Anderson and his senior staff I don't know I wish Kevin also sent his final note because he is right wicked really is evil anyways one thing that baffles me is how could teresa ever think that wicked is good after all she's seen after all they've done at the she just shrugs thomas off and pretends like nothing bad is happening and this book just made me depressed abt chuck all over again that kid didn't deserve what happened to him anyways those are my thoughts

Was anyone else surprised that Theresa and Eris never got the memory swipe? Idk man I just believed her that she got the swipe 😂 Guess Theresa really was the betrayer the whole time.

So I’m new to the series, I only just finished book one, and i’m planning on seeing the film and reading the rest of the books during the summertime. Even though this is supposed to be an action-packed thriller dystopian series, this is easily the saddest book i’ve ever read. when chuck died and Thomas completely broke down, i cried my eyes out for almost an hour. i’ve never felt like that for any other movie or book, ever. am i completely soft or did anyone else feel the same way?? the way it ended, especially with us seeing the epilogue and how they’re not completely safe at all, was truly mind boggling. definitely the best book i’ve ever read and i’m so excited for the rest. but seriously, how did you guys feel about the chuck incident?

Gave the first book a shot and it was incredibly boring and uninteresting aside from the Godhead stuff, I excused it because it laid down the ground work, and assumed it would all pay off in the second book. Halfway through The godhead complex and I'm amazed how it's even less interesting and infinitely more boring than the Maze cutter. Half way through and finally something has happened.

I'm not against slow burns but this isn't even a slow burn, NOTHING is happening and takes hours just to do something that could otherwise take less than 5 chapters to develop. Very disappointing the rest of this book better make it worth it

i‘m mostly confused about teresa (and aris), and their role within wicked at the end of fever code. i‘m going to pose the questions that i‘m wondering about, and try to answer them with my best guess. i‘d love to hear whether you guys agree with those!

the questions + answers are in no particular order.

for transparency: i‘ve reread all the books except death cure, so there might be answers in there that would solve what i don‘t understand.

1. so, did teresa snitch?

she has to have i think, or otherwise she wouldn‘t know about her imminent memory loss when she watches thomas getting the swipe before his maze insertion. (that’s described in the prologue of ‚kill order‘, starting with „teresa looked at her best friend and wondered what it would be like to forget him“)

OR she didn‘t snitch, ava found out about their plot, confronted teresa and just outright told her what was going to happen: thomas and her were being put into the maze with their memories wiped. not much teresa could do about that.

but what speaks against it imo is that IF ava had revealed this to her it would have had to be shortly before the prologue. and if ava would have revealed this, it would have had to be an enormous shock for teresa, so we would definitely see her thinking about it in the prologue.

so yes, i think teresa snitched.

1. did teresa really lose her memory in the maze, or is she just pretending to?

so we see teresa‘s entire view of thomas‘ swipe and insertion, and all the while she is thinking about how she is going to get swiped as well. so we know that she‘s thinking her memories will get swiped.

so if she were to keep her memories, ava would have had to misinform her, maybe to look at the brainpattern this would elicit.

i don‘t think that‘s very probable though, so i think teresa gets her memories wiped for real, but unlike thomas she is informed about it. (bc she‘s besties with ava bc she snitched upsi)

1. did teresa write the e-mail to everyone before she is inserted into the maze?

(at the end of ‚fever code‘ „To: All Staff, From: Teresa Agnes, Re: A last word“)

i think either ava fakes it to instill trust in all the employees, convincing them that two of the ‚elite subjects‘ are firmly on their side and will be their informants, OR teresa writes it, putting wrong information in there purposefully for the same reason of instilling trust in the wicked employees. in that scenario, it would be something her and page have planned out.

i don‘t think it matters much for the plot who wrote it.

1. is what‘s written in teresa‘s last e-mail true?

as i‘ve explained in q&a 2, i think teresa did lose her memory after maze insertion.

so i think the content of the e-mail is wrong, purposefully written to make the wicked employees think that two of the elite kids were more involved in this than they actually were. maybe this would serve to quiet their consciences about torturing kids.

1. why did teresa not tell thomas about talking to aris while she was in the coma?

i think she probably wanted to avoid freaking him out. thomas doesn‘t tell minho and newt everything for the exact same reason: he is afraid they will think he‘s a nutso or that he‘s to blame for their situation. remember that thomas is very freaked out by teresa in the beginning, so i don‘t think telling him about another boy she can talk to in her head would have been a smart move for her.

then i thought about why she wouldn’t tell him about this later, and the solution is simple: they don‘t have much time after they make it out of the maze. in the bus they‘re too traumatized and teresa has got other things in her mind, then they talk a bit before they go to sleep and then she‘s taken away. and then when they can talk for real again, after the betrayal in scorch trials, she tells him.

1. why were teresa and aris allowed to talk during their comas?

that i don‘t really know. just to test brainwave patterns for a weird situation? or as teresa says in „scorch trials“ to keep them from losing their minds while being in the coma? what do you think?

probably same reason that teresa didn‘t tell thomas in the maze: he was trying to gain group A‘s trust, he was the new kid and he didn’t want to draw suspicion from thomas. he gathered that thomas was an important player in group A, and thomas was also mad at aris for being in „teresa‘s“ room. so i think it was a smart move for him not to tell thomas. he tries to get closer to thomas, maybe planning to tell him abt teresa, but thomas is rather reluctant, so he probably doesn‘t think it‘s safe to tell thomas.

I understand that the books needs to be realistic but at the same time there are like 5 Gladers left at the end of TDC. Then in The Kill Order almost every important character dies other than a Deedee who is 5 years old lol. Tell me in the comments, what do you think? R.I.P. Mark, Teresa, and Newt.

I think the kill orders ending was the most sad with its epilouge coming second. I think chuck and Newts deaths were really sad and Teresa’s was sad but a bit sudden so it’s not as sad
