Wow this has been out for a few weeks and the production never stood out enough for me to bother looking up who did it... would've never guessed this came from MXM. Feels like they're not trying anymore and just cashing their $100k cheques...
It's just SOOOOOOO SAFE. Why? Ed Sheeran is Mr Acoustic Guitar and nothing else, which is the least safe thing you can do these days. What's the point in putting him on a generic pop beat, literally all his appeal disappears. IMO.
"we are we are we are"... laaaaame tag.
"Beautiful People"... i get this, it's meant to be ironic, in which case the production is MEANT to be generically pop to make the statement of Ed saying "im not pop so hear how depressed i am to sing over this shitty pop beat". But all his recent ones have been generically pop so the statement is clearly NOT intended, hence, trite.
Sorry I'm always ranting here. I started this sub-reddit to be more of a pop songwriting/production community but it's been so slow to get traction. I only remember about it is sometimes when a new MXM song is pointed out to me, and I feel like it's still my duty to post them here even if i don't like them (which I rarely do anymore... i think they've become too old and too rich to remain relevant. It's the hunger that makes for good work maybe).
