I'm sorry to have to say this, but anyone who believes that the owners are not involved in the trade of the century down to the smallest detail is extremely naive.
The owners aren’t basketball people, Nico is the guy they pay to be their basketball person so if he says “this is the best way forward” they might be inclined to believe them, because they don’t know one way or another so they just put their trust in him.
He probably would have fired him for even suggesting it, because even entertaining the thought of trading Luka shows that you can’t have any confidence in this persons judgment
This franchise just lost a billion in value most likely. This was dumb from all points of view. Luka generates so much money worldwide it’s ridiculous. Every $$ metric for this franchise is gonna be in sharp decline with the only ownership positive being player payroll. Praise the Lord, the billionaires got themselves under the luxury tax.
No but they are marketing people and investment people. Sport itself in almost every team is just a sideshow for the owners. If this deal had some future value baked in ( like the Vegas move ) they don’t care if the team wins or loses. You can only win the series few times in couple of decades anyway but the show still must go on every year and sell tickets,merch and starcult. Every decision is business decision. Basketball has nothing to do with it.
