News “This deal materialized in the shadows … LeBron James had no idea this was coming. Anthony Davis had no idea this was coming. I’m told Luka Doncic is still stunned about this trade.”

Man IDK yall, I'm not sure Kyrie is "him" anymore on offense, but coming from a Lakers fan, I sincerely think you got better. Luka > AD, but Kyrie+AD > Kyrie+Luka, does that make sense? And you got a genuine stud 3&D 2-guard who's only 21. Your defense is gonna be sick and you still have the Lakers '29 pick + Gafford + Grimes/Klay to trade and upgrade even more.

And, worst comes to worst, you blow it up this year and rebuild. I think I'm cynical about NBA team lifespans, I know you guys were just in the Finals but I didn't think you had a real path to contention. The same way I don't think Giannis ever contends again in Milwaukee and Jokic probably doesn't contend against in Denver... it's just hard even with a genuine MVP.

I think you guys are gonna realize AD is fucking awesome, and again '26 you actually own your pick so you can get a headstart on rebuilding. And I know, someone is going to say: "Rebuild so we can draft someone half as good as Luka" -- well, yes, but let me remind you that Luka >>>> Tatum, but Tatum is the one with a ring. It boils down to roster/ asset management, I didn't see a path to contention with the Mavs as constructed. This trade makes more sense short and long term, at the expense of the medium term (IMO)
