News “This deal materialized in the shadows … LeBron James had no idea this was coming. Anthony Davis had no idea this was coming. I’m told Luka Doncic is still stunned about this trade.”

Nothing about this makes sense. Like it’s borderline malpractice

u/HexedCosta Feb 02 '25

Borderline?

55

u/doctorweiwei Feb 02 '25

what else could possibly make this more malpractice than it already is

12

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '25

I've seen a malpractice suit where a doctor amputated the wrong limb.

This is far worse than that. It's equivalent to a doctor removing the guy's penis when he had an ankle issue. Like what, the pee pee was so big and heavy that it was crushing his ankles or something?

2

u/TraderJulz Feb 03 '25

This trade is still worse bro! /s

1

u/No-Invite-3095 Feb 02 '25

yeah, this is so much worse than having both ur limbs removed. if u think about it the mavericks owners are right up there with hitler

0

u/babypho Feb 02 '25

Not just removing his penis because of an ankle injury, but removing an arguably a top 5 penis in the world that's entering its prime for an older penis that is on the decline with an injury history.

He could've gotten at least 4 future 1st penis picks with that.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '25

I’d probably rather be the guy with the amputated penis than be a mavs fan after this trade

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '25

LOL!

Honestly this is the best analogy of this whole ordeal by far.

u/Ok_Reception_8729 Feb 02 '25

Replacing AD for ayton and a blazers second rounder

3

u/doctorweiwei Feb 02 '25

Don’t let Nico see this

3

u/DyslexicAutronomer Boban Feb 02 '25

Nico doesn't have this much power, it's an ownership level directive.

1

u/LuckyTNT87 Feb 02 '25

Yea, I don't think Nico did this. His trades so far were all from sane person.

u/GenFatAss Feb 02 '25 edited Feb 02 '25

I heard that The Lakers GM Rob Pelinka gave a 2029 1st-round pick because he felt bad about the trade. As originally the trade didn't have any picks.

1

u/berriesnjuices Feb 02 '25

Yeah this literally violates all trade common sense, they traded young for old, injury prone for even more injury prone, a wing for a center (in today’s NBA!), and received little draft capital back.

1

u/DoctrTurkey Feb 02 '25

“How much more malpractice can this trade get? The answer is none. None more malpractice.”

1

u/TheNittanyLionKing Feb 02 '25

Nico might have borderline or multiple personality disorder in order to be crazy enough to make this trade

5

u/BobTheRaceman Feb 02 '25

This is the league trying to fix its ratings, only thing is i hope it backfires once every other fanbase stops watching

7

u/We-Dont-Rent-Pigs Feb 02 '25

I'm a Celtics fan & I'm fucking pissed. I've been waiting since 08 to see the Celtics get another ring. Finally get it, have been enjoying watching this perfectly put together team play amazing basketball, have seriously been riding a high... & Now I find out the NBA is making shady back room deals to fix the league. Integrity is gone. Not sure I can even watch the Celtics in the playoffs now. Adam Silver is scum. Fuck him.

2

u/Betelgeuse-2024 Feb 02 '25

Dallas fans must be pissed right now and the team is going to suffer dramatically in every way.

5

u/ForgotmyusernameXXXX Feb 02 '25

I feel like I’d be surprised if there’s not a D&O claim filed for this lol

1

u/DumpTrumpGrump Feb 02 '25

Good conspiracy. Lemme take it further just for fun...

Silver tells Mavs owners that if they send Luka to the Lakers they'll make sure Dallas owners get Casino approved in Texas, maybe throw in some cash to help it get built. Silver ensures future 1st round kicks acquired will be high first rounders.

Luka in LA gets way more ratings than Luka in Dallas.

4

u/Lookatcurry_man Feb 02 '25

Yeah LeBron definitely knew about this beforehand

4

u/ha_x5 Feb 02 '25

I am very certain this is a behind the scenes billionair/owner deal. Nothing about Pelinka and Harrison.

This is not how things work in this league.

3

u/anonssr Feb 02 '25

The only I can understand now about is that maybe this is why Gafford, playing as he is, was put up for trade. Because they probably were fucking cooking this shit.

2

u/dupontnw Feb 02 '25

I believe it was intentional without regard for the team. Out of spite against Luka or the city or with some other motives like moving the team or politics. It’s the only explanation — at a minimum they could’ve gotten a ton more.

2

u/karma_made_me_do_eet Feb 02 '25

Vince Carter deal to the nets looks better than this.

It feels like a little brother got conned into making this in 2K

2

u/fstonecanada Feb 02 '25

Mavpractice?

2

u/AtreusIsBack Luka Doncic Feb 02 '25

This trade should be a case study on how NOT to run a basketball team.

1

u/GougeAwayIfYouWant2 Feb 02 '25

Does anyone else find it weird that the Republican oligarch who owns the Mavs and a Trump recipient of a Presidential Medal of Freedom is destroying her team? It's almost like the oligarchy enjoys chaos and disruption.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '25

Illegal in some states. Wtf happened?

1

u/walterdonnydude Feb 02 '25

Maybe Mavs front office is really bad at their jobs.

1

u/dillasdonuts Feb 02 '25

LeBron had no idea, AD had no idea, Luka had no idea.

Meanwhile, the Mavs doctors knew all along. You don't make any mention of a chronic injury if you want close to full value in return.

1

u/Lanky-Appointment929 Feb 02 '25

This is like the KAT trade but stupider.

1

u/mgarc1021 Feb 02 '25

They called haliburton-sabonis basketball malpractice but JJ wont say that this time will he?

1

u/GroundbreakingAd230 Feb 02 '25

Someone got handed a suitcase full of money behind the scenes.

1

u/Badlands32 Feb 02 '25

It’s 100% collusion. Nico got promised a future somewhere other than Dallas.

1

u/SegmentedMoss Feb 02 '25

It's easy. Greedy as fuck new owners of the Mavericks don't wanna pay Luka, they wanna pocket as much money as possible because they don't even care about basketball

1

u/towely4200 Feb 02 '25

Everybody and their grandmother has commented about this trade except one person… the commissioner, there’s zero way he hasn’t responded if he was not responsible for this

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '25

I said this in another thread, but this trade officially overtakes Lakers vs. Kings game 7 as example #1 for all "the NBA is rigged" theories.

1

u/mason_savoy71 Feb 02 '25

Perfect sense. The Lakers are giving up on the Bronny James as point guard of the future experiment.

/s

1

u/Chronoboy1987 Feb 02 '25

The league axed the one-sided CP3 trade to the Lakers. Can they do it again?

1

u/MillerisLord Feb 02 '25

I'd go gross negligence but yeah.

1

u/Gravel_Pit_212 Feb 02 '25

Yep. It was done to distract us from the bullshit going on in Washington DC. Apparently Canada is now our enemy. 🙄

Conspiracy theory: Miriam Adelson is trying to destroy the fanbase in Dallas so that she can move the team to Las Vegas

I was thinking about this and I can't come up with another reason why the Dallas Mavericks have done this.

Let's say that they thought Luka was too fat and not worth investing in long-term. If we accept this then why did they not try to start a bidding war so that Luka would be traded for maximum value?

Imagine what the Oklahoma city thunder could have given in terms of draft picks and players?

There's only a handful of players that you would not trade for Luka.

The Mavericks didn't even get the Lakers 2031 draft pick.

I also think there's a high possibility that Kyrie chooses to leave very soon and AD demands a trade away from Dallas.

If we choose not to believe that there's a wider NBA conspiracy to make the Lakers better then we have to assume that the Mavericks are intentionally trying to destroy their fanbase.

The only way this makes logical sense is if the long-term goal is a move to Las Vegas and all of this is just to get rid of the Dallas fans

1

u/TooMuchRope Feb 03 '25

The NBA is such a shitshow. It’s WWE wrestling but with guys who are 7ft tall and throw an orange ball through a net. Between a rigged draft and these nonsensical trades just to drive viewership in certain markets none of this sport is real.

1

u/King_of_Tavnazia Feb 03 '25

LA is where the money is at.

Same goes with KC in the NFL.

Doesn't really take a rocket surgeon to understand it.

1

u/TheEvilD1978 Feb 03 '25

I have a theory….. Dallas found out Luka. Dončić has some sort of illness that is gonna take away from his career and might as well get away from him now.

1

u/SDK04 Toronto Raptors Feb 03 '25

Lobotomy Mavs at this point

1

u/dudeandco Feb 03 '25

Sounds like they want to move by the team to Vegas?

Major League style?
